just remember, you are her parent, not her best friend. You are her mother to teach her how to become a rescpected adult.

Just love her. Don't worry about being too nice. You can show love and be firm when you have to be.
Parenting is not rocket science. People have been having children for however long we have been on this planet and most of us are reasonably successful in raising them. Know when you need to say no. And remember that discipline is also an act of love.
Be sure to see all aspect of your children. Recognize both her strengths and her weaknesses. And don't worry. It will all come very naturally.
You care enough to ask about it. That is an awesome first step.

You absolutely have to buy Dr. Kevin Leman's book called "making your child mind without losing yours." I am not huge on reading parenting books, but this one is a must.
I only wish I had read it when I was pregnant. He talks about all your concerns you just said and gives excellent advice.
By the way being kind and nice is fine, your children will end up respecting and loving you for it. Just be consistent in your discipline.

i have 4 kids and i really hate when people say" just remember your not their friend your their parent" listen.... your both! you'll have those times that they need to be handled... all things are handled in different ways. just try and guide them as they are small in whats right and wrong. the key is when they are small...always!!! listen to them so they will come to you and let them have their own opinions. soooooo you'll be both mother and friend.
you'll do fine!
