Would you please explain? You are asking a question but there is no back story to it so it is a bit confusing.

I am of Mexican descent and I don't have a problem with it maybe because I am Mexican. However, you are not and I can understand your issue with it but when people ask me if I am subcontinent Indian I don't get upset. As a matter of fact I have been asked if I was Greek because of my nose and my olive skin and Middle Eastern because of my eyes. When my mother was younger, she was often asked what Native American tribe she belonged to.

With all due respect, I feel compelled to ask what part of the country you live in. If you live in a border town along the US-Mexico border where a large portion of the population speaks Spanish, then maybe that is why people assume you are Mexican. Most people who live along that border are usually of Mexican descent which means that they are playing the odds regardless of skin color or language capability.

I am sorry you are offended by being called this but why should you be offended? There is nothing wrong with being Mexican and there certainly isn't anything wrong with being mistaken for Mexican either.

I know a lot of people assume that if you speak Spanish, you must be from Mexico, and most of the time, they are right. Now, educated people know the difference. You are probably around alot of high school drop-outs or people that lack a college education. See in grammar school, they don't teach you this. As far as Mexicans feeling superior to the rest of Central and South America, unfortunately, it's true most of the time. While Central and South America pride themselves in being connected to Europe, Mexicans in Mexico pride themselves in the connection with the United States and Mexico aspires to be like the United States someday. Maybe they will and everyone can stay in their homeland and live happily.

First of all, being a racist usually means that one believes themselves superior to another solely based on race.

As to your question though...if someone assumes you are Mexican because of your screen name...I don't see anything wrong with it.

The fact is that most Latins in the US *are* of Mexican heritage. So, if one interacts with you either here or in person, a logical and reasonable assumption the chances are pretty darn good that you are Mexican.

So...what's wrong with that? Based on those reasonable assumptions, it's not racist at all to assume that you are Mexican. However, I do know that Mexicans hate a number of other Latin heritages and vice versa. For example, Peruvians who are mistaken for Mexicans are seriously offended.

You might think about getting that chip off your shoulder. If you don't, *you* might be labeled a racist.

It's not a racist view, but a prejudiced one. The fact is the majority of Hispanics we meet in the USA are Mexicans, so many Americans tend to assume that a Hispanic they meet will most likely be from Mexico. It does not mean that all Americans you meet who assume that are racist.

You must not be proud of your heritage, if you are hiding behind the name Spanish Please. I wouldn't hide behind the name Latina.

And if you want to complain about racism, try this one on for size:
On Yahoo I have been called a dumb white girl, a lazy white racist, I have been told I am a racist white European, too dumb & lazy too learn the Spanish language, I was told I'm not a Native American, but I am a gringa, cracker, white bitc*, ghost, a meth head, a smelly non bathing white person, all by non-white participants and spouses of non- whites who happen to be white themselves.
But not ONCE did I ever single out 1 group or any one person and and use that type of disrespectful, RACIAL Language. I was always refering to "Illegal Aliens" of any race. I never pulled the race card, why should I have to I make good points on topics & give good comprehensible answers. I guess I don't have to resort to that kind of bullsh*t, no too much intelligence here.
Now not one of those things said about me are true, they were all said by Hispanics who proudly aknowledged their heritage, even by white women sticking up for their Mexican Husbands, & their African American friends.

AND THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO CALL ME A RACIST, THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT "RACIST" MEANS!

Not one of you know my true race, you don't know if I am a mix of different races. They claim I only know English & I'm White, and they base that strickly on my answers, what a bunch of racial dumb-asses!

There are just two people that said these derogatory slurs that have actually have toned it down alot, one has made a complete turn around, now she tells people not to say racist things, and now I really enjoy reading her post they are quite pleasant and informative actually, and there is 1 guy who came on the field blasting slurs, he too toned it down and now he is stating facts.
I wish I could thank the two of you for making your writings more pleasant to read, but I would hate to single you out and have your peers label you as a sell out whitey lover. So, hopefully you know who you are, and I give you two my heart-filled Thanks.

I SWEAR REVERSE- RACE DISCRIMINATION IS RUNNING RAPID IN THIS WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually spanish spoken in Mexico is a language of conquest. The great Europeans forced it on the Aztec or the natives of Mexico at that time of conquest. It is not your language it belonges to the Europeans.
And who cares what you are anyway. Did I ask ?

When you say Native American, do you mean born in the USA? I find we have to be careful about lables these days.

How could we assume you are anything? You could be Arabian or Serbian for all we know.

Because of the arrogance of your questioning. Stereotyping is because of the actions of people. Example; Calling people Racist to better your opinion.

Pro Illegals do this so you go by the way of them, Mexican or not.

PS Your Nick has alot to do with it.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck; it's probably a duck. Most Americans are now people of color and I would say yes, these people are racist against Whites.
