We are socialized to say stuff like that, if you hear something enough as a kid, on TV, it gets assimilated into your vocabulary.

Because it is one of the most common expressions in the English language, it doesn't mean they necessarily believe in "God" any more than saying "No Sh_t" means you are constipated.

Habit. My hubby says for someone who does not believe in god I sure do say it a lot during sex.

It's just a cultural thing, a turn of phrase , an expression. It does not signify whether one believes in god or not.

I'm an atheist, and I never say it; but I suspect the reason is similar to the reason say the F-word without referring to the F-act.

The root word God is Sanskrit for "to call upon, invoke, implore", so it has little to do with religion.

it is an expression that people are taught to say in response to any suprise.


kind of like when i get shot in the "nads" while playing paintball,

i say "JESUS CHRIST" but i am a Pagan,

i think that Jesus is just easier to scream (or grunt) than Tuath De Dannon, or Cerunuuos...

Because they actually believe in God. If they didn't they why would they say it. It makes perfect sense. So any of those stupid atheists out there who say that aren't actually atheists.
