My 17 month old daughter has diarrhoea and a pretty nasty rash to go along with it. I've been putting baby powder or diaper rash cream on it. And changing her diaper frequently also. I was just wondering if anyone knew of anyother ways to help soothe her?

Try using a wet washcloth to clean her instead of the wipes to make sure that there is no residue left on her to irritate her rash more. If the rash is really bad, see a doctor because it may actually be a yeast infection type rash and they will give you a hydrocortizone/antifungal mix cream to treat it. Also consider giving her at least 2 baths a day until it goes away. The water should soothe, and keep her clean for a little while to help heal rather than having diaper contents up against her skin during that time!!

I have a 20 month old and if I could buy stock in Boudreaux's Butt Paste I would do so!

If it doesn't clear up soon, call your doc. They can prescribe something stronger and better. I got to the point that I could recognize different types of rashes thanks to my doc. I'd know when to call in to his office and when to treat it on my own. I'm able to call my doc and he'll call in a prescription into my pharmacy without an office visit.

Sometimes yogurt helps too. A lot of rashes are yeast infections and that seems to help up the healing process.

Hope this helps.

Oh.....and use warm wash cloths instead of baby wipes when there is a nasty rash. Baby wipes seem to hurt them

I would say everytime after she goes #2 in her diaper to gently wash it with water and a cloth. Don't put too many chemical cleaners on it...that might burn. I've read that the absolute best diaper rash cream is "Boudreaux's Butt Paste". A lot of celebrities use it for their babies rashes. Their website is www.buttpaste.com

Your kind of taking a chance when you do this, but keep her diaper off for a little while. It will help dry out the rash. And make her bottom feel better too. I do this with my daughter.

If at all possible let her run around without a diaper...Getting air to her rash will help a great deal.
Also corn starch worked wonders for my kids.

Hope she feels better soon.

Oh its horrible when you try to wipe them and they are in pain!
I found a solutino that worked well for my son! OTher than putting him in the bath tub that would speed healing, (he was in dipaers), After he would go poopee or whatever in his diaper, I would get a squeezy bottle and fill it with warm water and maybe a very mild gentle soap (just a drop or two) (for the cleansing process) and just sit him on the toilet and squirt the water over her affected area. (for my boy it was in the rear) It was very soothing for him and he didnt ahve to scream in pain because I wasnt wiping him. even diaper wipes hurt him.... AFter doing that a few times I noticed the rash started to heal very quickly.
i promise you this works! Sorry she is not feelng well.
Oh yes afterward let it air dry for a few minutes then smother itwith diaper cream. & give her lots of liquids :)_

Make sure that you clean up the area. Then apply Vaseline! My son has very sensitive skin and I used all the expensive ointments on him to no avail. When I asked his doctor she told me to use Vaseline. It creates a barrier which prevents the poop and pee from getting at the raw area. If the rash is really bad it will take a couple of days to clear up. If it's not to bad it should clear up in a couple of changes.

triple antibiotic or vaeline.

Comfort her by singing to her and putting some soft music on to get her mind off the rash if it hurts.

Maybe baths will help also.

Try to give her healthy foods that wont give her diarrhoea and try not to let her move to much if the rash hurts.

Hope it helps!

I use penaten cream, solves most common skin irritations. Main ingredient is zinc oxide. Works all the time and my kid gets it bad, if I dont get to his diaper in two minutes, he has a very sore bum. Also wash the baby butt with water, less painful.
