I have been dagnosed with auditory processing disorder, but was told that there is no cure or even treatment, though people develop tricks to deal with it. Any recommendations?

My son was diagnosed with APD, you are right there is no "cure" mainly because this qualifies as a learning disability. But you have the choice to own your disability or you can let it own you. There are games that you can purchase on line that can help your brain to retrain itself, also it is best to study where it is quiet without any outside stimulation. If you are in school many teachers have access to personal listening devices, it allows you to hear their voice right in your ear. Just do not give up!!!! you can learn to live and thrive with it.

YES, THERE IS A CURE !!! My 17yr old son has it and for the last 18 months has been having Bio-Neurofeedback. Basically, they hook you up to electrode leads and have you sit and look at (what appears to be) a video game, but without controllers. Your brain knows what it should do and everytime you score a "point" the electrode gives that part of your brain that is basically sleeping a little "electric reward". Your brain learns quickly from this and likes the rewards to it continues to do the right thing and get rewards. Before you know it, it's automatically doing it without rewards because that part of your brain has been retrained. It now has learned how to process different auditory sounds. This technique takes awhile BUT, your brain can be retrained so that the parts that are un-responsive "wake up" and stay that way. There are only a handfull of doc's that do this, and we happened to find one in Pennsylvania who does. I hope you are able to find one in your area/state because this really does work! His grades have gone from D's and F's to A's, B's & C's and with no medications. Good luck !!
