Just tell her that SHE HAS NO CHOICE about taking the medicine, but offer her a choice of drink to wash it down with, a snack after or any other IMMEDIATE incentive you can think of (dont offer a new toy or anything you dont have in your possesion right now) This is the only way we could get my 3 year old to take his medicine. Good luck.

I went through this same thing too!
The idea about the flavoring is one of the things that helped us. Maybe you can take her and let her pick out a flavor! There are tons of choices. just ask the pharmacist to help you, they flavor it for you.
You have to tell her that she has to take her medicine because the DR says it will help her. Put your foot down. Dont let her run and hide. Tell her it is not okay to spit it out. Tell her you are going to call Dr,. (insert name) and tell him/her that you are not following the doctors orders and are being bad.
I found my son favored the medicine syringe over a spoon, and it was fun for him to push the meds in his mouth himself, maybe that will alllow her to feel she has control over it.
Maybe you could give her a choice, tell her take her medicine or go to her room, or something she doesnt like. follow through with it, and eventually she will decide the medicine, I present that to my daughter and she chooses the medicine,
Its not easy, but you will find something that works for you, just keep trying.
After she takes the medicine, let her drink some water.
If she has to take several spoon fulls, make it fun and count with her until its the "last one yay! "
when she does take it, tell her what a good girl she is and reward her with a hug and give her a star sticker , or something that she isinterested in.
if she has to take the meds for a long period of time, tell her at the end of every month, you will by her a toy or something under 10.00 or something.
Ultimatley you want it to be a pleasant experience so she doesnt have complex later, but above all, she is testing you guys bigtime, put your foot down!

When my daughter was younger she had to take liquid Clartin, which is just plain awful! She would scream, kick, spit it out, you name it. I tried hiding it in food and drink without success. Finally, I had enough! I told her that she was going to take her medicine and that was it. I told her options taking her medicine really quickly, followed by a glass of water or time out. Any kicking, spitting it out, etc.. resulted in a immediate time out. After 3 times she learned it was better to get it over as quick as possible. After that it became a race to see how fast should could take her medicine! Good luck!

I had a friend who practiced swallowing like M&M's to get used to swallowing pills. You might be able to find something small to swallow that she likes to help her learn how to swallow pills, My infant daughter did what yours does. Even when very small. She was a stong willed baby and independent and just didn't want anyone to do anything to her like give her liquid meds. She does as a grown person have a very sensitive gag reflux when she brushes her teeth, so maybe that contributed to my daughter's issue ???? you might want to try babycenter.com they seem to have great bulletin boards and advice.

Tell her if she doesn't take it, you won't talk to her. You might not think it works, but it drives kids off the wall when their parents don't pay attention to them. Just set the medicine on the table and tell her if she doesn't drink it, you won't acknowledge her presence. She will scream, yell and cry but in the end she'll be at your feet with an empty glass asking "mommy please talk to me"

crush the meds into the juice and make drinking all the juice a game-be creative yet sly. she four she would probably be more interested if it was game she'd want to play over and over.

You can have the pharmacy put flavoring in her medicines if they are in liquid form. There are lots of great flavors that Walgreen's carries. I bet she would take them if they tasted better.
Good luck.
