I agree. Unfortunately, much of the world gets their news from biased sources and pick sides based upon fallacies. Israel has never attacked anyone. Israel's shops and buses are constantly in danger of suicide bombings and every child needs to join the Army in order for Israel to survive. It's horrific. I am so tired of people saying Israel "stole" their land from the Palestinians; it was untrue then and it remains untrue now. Soon after the Holocaust the British government withdrew from the Palestine mandate and the UN General Assembly divided Palestine (which has had Jews in it since the beginning of man) into two states: Israel & Palestine. The Israelis never stole any land; post-Holocaust international assemblies finally took notice of the plight of the Jews in the Middle East. The Arab League hated the Jews and rejected the Partition Plan; once Israel become its own state they viciously attacked it. In 1948, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon declared war on Israel just months after Israel became a state. Israelis have had to constantly fend for their land and their lives. France and the U.K. finally fought with the Israelis when Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal.
Israel has only ever attacked to prevent terrorist attacks on their own land. This idea that the Jews stole the land is a terrible lie repeated through the generations. In 1981, the Israeli Air Force bombed the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osiraq in an attempt to foil Iraqi efforts at producing an atomic bomb because the Iraqis threatened to use it against Israel. Israel fought to expel the PLO from the country because this terrorist organization continually attacked them. More uprisings followed after the PLO relocated to Tunis. Iraq attacked Israel during the Gulf War and Palestinians cheered Hussein from their rooftops. Hamas savagely attacked Israel an unprecedented number of times after they signed the Oslo Accords with the PLO in an attempt to negotiate peace. The Oslo Accords were immediately broken by more militants throughout Palestine and the Middle East. Hezbollah and Hamas continued to attack Israel and brought about the recent Israeli conflict with Lebanon.
It amazes me how many people don't know the true history of Israel - of how it was formed and then consistently spat upon. The Jews attacked Lebanon in '06 to counter terrorist Hezbollah forces because they were sick and tired of having to take a "backseat" approach to being attacked- especially after leaving Gaza to yet again attempt to bring about a peaceful resolution. Israel has consistently been met with terror and is constantly under the threat of a nuclear weapons attack in the Middle East. That anyone should be "against' Israel is beyond me. I do not blame all of the Arabs. I blame the militant Arab terrorists. That some Americans are dissing Israel for their attack on Lebanon only goes to show how quickly loyalties shift and how little people know about the state of Israel. It is a sad state of affairs.
Thanks for asking a question that merits study, action and thought. Truth and reality are far too often missing in the media and amongst anti-Semites. I wish you the best, always.
*For those who want to study the facts regarding Israel, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel. It will give you all the historic information you need to form an educated opinion.
*Comrade, Yahoo "Victim", and Neznice - Your responses are sickening. Do you actually know anything of reality or are you simply repeating what you've been trained to say? "Terrorist attacks" are the only way to 'fight' Israel? What the hell are you fighting for? Israel never attacked first in its history. Can you imagine living in a country under constant threat of being attacked by the Arab world?. No? I didn't think so. You don't like that Israel defends itself? You would prefer it lay down and die. No, that's not going to happen either. How could you even think this insanely?

Nobody has mentioned the infighting going on between Hamas and Fatah. I think prospects for peace will be dependent on what happens within the territories.
I believe that Israel has the right to defend itself (I'll be going there soon), but I do believe that a genuine agreement with a party (not Hamas) is the best answer, and not unilateral moves.

There are varying degrees of being against Isreal, Some may be against her and want to see her deal "fairly with Palistine" but the majority of those against Isreal seek her complete destruction in the same way hitler did. For this segment nothing less than geenoside will do.
As for the restraint that is imposed on Isreal by the U.N. and Quite frankly by The U.S and the U.K it is about trying to avoid an actual world war with nuclear consiquences. consider the modern wars Isreal has engaged in with her antagonist. In these conflicts there have always been clear lines of loyalty.
The U.S. & U.K. have backed Isreal while the U.S.S.R. backed the Arab nations. Of course none of the "super powers of the preceeding decades wanted to see the other get exclusive access to the fule thier war machines use wich comes out of the Midle East. Yes there are sources out side of the Middle East, but the other sources could be isolated for exclusive use by one power or the other much easier than the region in conflict with Isreal. The longer Either side could avoid using thier "Emergency Reserves" the strategicly the better.
One more way lines are drawn is religiously Iseal was backed by countries that are like it or not are viewd as Christian and the Arab states wich make up a muslim nation were being backed by a self proclaimed Aithiest republic. Sorry folks but the lines are historicly clear Christians and Jews Verse Muslims and aithiest. Those lines are still in efect today. If Isreal A religious state were to flex her military might against her Islamic enemies unrestrained they could outlaw Islam in the same way judiism is outlawed in some Muslim nations.
The intrest wether economic or religious (pick yer poison) Of countries on either side of these lines would be drawn into conflict if Isreal expelled the muslims who hate her from her boundries. That would be one big war and with the extreamest on BOTH sides having more than enough nukes to fullfil every fear we ever had of mutual destuction the U.N The U.S.A.and even Isreal herself allow palistine to stay in the midst of Isreal.

The only thing I would say that I disapprove of with Israel is the fact they have let the U.S. and the UN restrain them from being more aggressive in defending themselves. I think Israel will never be safe as long as the UN is around to protect the terrorists that attack Israel.

Yes,Israel withdrew from Gaza and in the same time, they totally isolated it from the rest of the world. They withdrew form there, but they never left:"Gaza residents know that significant aspects of their lives - the ability to exit or enter Gaza, the supply of medicine, fuel and other basic goods, the possibility to transport crops to export markets, the ability to use electric lights - depend on decisions made by Israel's military."...Making a big prison for Palestinians couldn't make things better for no one...And they gave Gaza back, but in the same time they took more land from West Bank.A few weeks ago the Israeli government approved the building of a new settlement there...So as long as Israel keeps kicking Palestinians out of their land and keeps occupying every year more and more land, what would you expect Palestinians to do?They don't have the latest weapons provided by the US,they don't have the support of the strongest country in the world.
This is what Chief of Staff Moshe Ya'alon said about Palestinians:"Palestinians are like cancer and I am just applying chemotherapy".And sadly Israel is run by people like him...
What more do I want?I want them to totally withdraw from ALL the occupied territories and allow Palestinians to create their own state there and let's not forget about allowing the refugees to come back...

I would build a huge wall around the west bank and the strip. I would never allow people to cross the wall. Do this and they will spend most of their time fighting each other.

I'm actually in support of Israel, but I think the other side wants it to die and let it be a cheap funeral. That's pretty much it....

Yeah, you withdraw 9000 people from land that did not belong to Israel, then you build more PERMANENT structures and settlements on other land that does not belong to Israel.
Israel's "peace" offers are disingenuous tactics to further oppress and push Palestinians completely out of the region. You don't just want to wipe Palestine and all Palestinians off the map, you're in the process of wiping Palestine and all Palestinians off the map. This is called GENOCIDE and ETHNIC CLEANSING
Then you wonder why Palestinians, the entire Middle East and most of the world hates you dirty underhanded backstabbing lying parasitic bastards. And that includes Israeli citizens, as they have allowed their government to commit gross atrocities against Palestinians for 60 years.
God damn Israel and fvck the IDF.
