I have a stubborn 9 yr old min. schnauzer who takes for ever to take a dump, he wants to go on long walks most of the time even if he has to go really bad- he will hold it, this is annoying as I can't always weather wise or time wise take him on extended walks. He sniffs everywhere & is picky as to which spot he goes in.I guess he knows as soon as he goes I take him back inside the apartment so he tries to prolong the walks.
Help how can I speed the process up?

My dog did the same things too.You know you can't stop him he will continue to do this, but it's up to you,you must show him that you are the boss(I guess he already knows that)if he doesn't do it just return home.At the end he will understand that you can't walk that long and that he has to do it fast.Oh and don't forget to give him treats when he does it.If your dog loves to walk outside he will certainly do it.If he does it inside well.......just good luck, but it worked on my dog.

Don't take him in right after he poos, he has learned to associate that behaviour with going inside. Take him for a certain time/length of walk and then go in. He will soon learn that he better take care of things or else he will have to hold it a long time. Also give him a small treat (carried in your pocket) immediately after he goes poo and lots of praise. Liver treats work well. And remember, don't take him inside right after he poos, you have to break the association between the two behaviours.
