your tv is slightly outdated, but it does support HD (you probably know that). according to it's manual, the KP accepts 720p and 1080i HD inputs. So, you will be able to use a blue ray disc player on it. you will have to use the component video input to view HD content. The beauty of Blu-ray is that it provides 1080p output, but the KP does not support 1080p, but you can still view 1080i and 720p.
The above clearly answers your questions, but i would like to make a suggestion. Blu-ray is eventually going to give out to HD-DVD because sony is loosing too much money over Blu-ray while HD-DVD is making a profit. So, i would like to suggest you purchase the toshiba HD-xa1. it runs HD-DVD's- which are much sharper than Blu-ray. also, the HD-xa1 is going to be much cheaper than any blu-ray disc player you plan to purchase. The reason for this is, toshiba has launched the HD-xa2. but, because the KP is outdated, you don't need the hd-xa2.
So, do what you like- but i would highly suggest purchasing a HD-XA1. you don't need blu-ray, unless you decide to buy a new tv that supports 1080p.

lets make this simple: yes u can.
there were 300 million blu-ray players sold at Christmas, most in the ps3. Blu-ray is the best and here to stay.
