I'm not sure what I want to do with my hair yet for prom, but I was thinking of finding some sort of middle ground between and updo and leaving it down.

My hair is a dark redish-purple, and hits a little past my shoulders and matches this dress I want to get:

I'm looking for a how-to site... thanks!

Maybe if it's all the way up-- I do like Audrey Hepburn's hair here.

It's just a matter of HOW to...

I think you should go with an up do...to add more elegance. That way you won't look all cluttered around the neck, especially if you wear a necklace or something.
I googled and got instructions here:
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art46694.asp
Although I don't think you should go and cut a bang for one night...follow the instructions, but first before putting hair into recommended ponytail,
1. Part a box into your head in the front, like 3 inches across your orehead and 3 inches back too.
2. Secure that hair with something and then put your hair in the ponytail as suggested on the site.
3. Take the sectioned off hair along with a big curling iron and make it one big spiral curl.
4. Comb the curl w/ a wide tooth comb, something that will loosen but not take out all the curl.
5. Gather all the hair but push it forward a little to create the "hump" in the front, play with it until you like the way the "hump" looks, maybe move it to the side a little or whatever.
6. When you like the way it looks, secure it with bobby pins and for the hair that's hanging out under the boby pin just wrap it around whatever is securing your ponytail...then finish your hair according to the site's directions and...walaa

Matter fact I think you should just roller set your whole head before doing any of these steps b/c this will add volume to your hair...that way you ay not even have to spiral curl the sectioned off hair and the ponytail will look full and pretty instead of just there and hanging.
