nurses make tons of money. teachers dont. i know that i want to be a teacher, but my plan was to go be a nurse for a few years, make some money, then go be a teacher. Im 18 years old, and in my 2nd semester at city college. i am still taking my general ed courses, so i can go both ways. i know that i will be happy being a teacher. but who knows, i could be happy being a nurse, and i could also hate being a nurse, and even hate being a teacher.
Life is too short to make money.
Money wont buy happiness.
Money comes close i guess.
you gotta do what you love.
I just dont know anymore..
what do you think?

You should definitely go after a career you love, not just for the money. Best advice I can give you is start off taking courses that are required for both degrees. Then take a couple science courses. Take a general Biology course. If you don't hate it, take an Anatomy course. If you can handle that course, you can handle being a nurse. I am taking my second semester of Anatomy and Physiology and a lot of people drop the idea of being a nurse when they realize the difficulty of the courses required to even get into nursing school. Also, I don't believe either profession is something you just casually decide to do. You are called to be a nurse. You are called to be a teacher. You heart has to be in it completely for the profession to work for you and for you to be successful at either one. The fact that you are 18 and just in your 2nd semester means you still have time to decide. Go with your heart and not your wallet. And depending on what type of teacher you become and how far you go in your education can really effect how much you actually make. If you want to teach children, strongly consider getting your Master's degree and getting enough graduate hours to qualify as a college instructor as well. You could teach at a Public school with kids during the daytime and to make some extra cash you could teach an evening course a few nights a week at a community college. There are lots of options out there.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that nurses make tons of money, because they don't, and neither do teachers. Both groups are poorly paid and over-worked. As long as you can make a living, do what you love. You won't get rich in either of the two professions you mentioned, but you can help a lot of people if it's what you really want.

I would rather go with something that I love doing rather than making tons of money and not really enjoying my job, but spending all that time and money to become a nurse first and then a teacher to me isn't too good of an idea.

Those career fields are in very high demand. My best bet would go for the health care field because they are many nursing shortages in this country and health care facilities (hospitals, doctor's offices, etc) are offering hugh bonuses for new hires. Go to http://www.bls.gov/oco and go to the Service and Professional career fields. I hope this is a great help to you

I am training to be a nurse & not sure if I will like it or not but hey once you have finished your training and decide that is not what you want to do at least you have that behind you if you wish to do it a bit later.

Teachers make less money because they don't work nights, weekends, holidays, or all summer. Sounds like a good deal to me.

You answered your own question more than once. It is obvious you would rather be a teacher. You can always teach something relevant to nursing, such as biology, chemistry, pathophysiology....
