Faith is a whole other thing. Faith is what you hold on to because you know and believe in God and what He's going to do in your life

God's existence is NOT self-evident. Has anyone actually seen Him? Has anyone talked to Him (I mean an actual two-sided conversation)? Does he have fingerprints or DNA that can prove where He has been?
THAT is what faith is all about. Faith is the believing in something without any real proof. Do I have faith in God's existence? Sure. Do I have evidence of His existence? Nothing irrefutable.

Good question. Some people say that they know God exists because they have faith - a belief with a lack of evidence. Then on the next question they say that evidence of God's existence is everywhere (i.e. trees, sunsets, baby's smile, etc.). Well that doesn't wash does it? You can't reconcile that you have faith and you have evidence; those contradict each other. Christians, you are gonna have to pick one or the other, but quit trying to "sell" us on both.

I will let God answer that:
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
I think the question is why do people believe through blind faith or only one side of the argument when it comes to believing

Because in a nonlogical system the earth can be both flat and round at the same time and in a world of miracles even contradictions and fantasy are acceptable and one is not allowed to question; as a god is beyond reproach.
Or maybe like rap music those engendered by the almighty or the godfather are allowed to make up their own words as they see fit . Hence faith becomes yet another catch all changling like the sacred chameleon of the soul.

Because God's existence IS NOT self-evident unless you believe or have faith that it is.

For the same reason scientists take the existance of all MASS in the universe existing perpetually and the singularity that made the bang "just being there" on faith.

There is a big problem when people can no longer distinguish the difference between knowledge and belief.
Knowledge is based on facts, whereas belief is based on faith.
To some of the faithful, they can no longer tell which is which. IMO, that's the difference between fundamentalists and other believers. The more someone claims belief as knowledge, the more likely that someone is intolerant of others.

God's existance as you have said is self-evident. Romans 1:20
For, from the very creation of the world, His invisible perfections--namely His eternal power and divine nature--have been rendered intelligible and clearly visible by His works, so that these men are without excuse.
Faith is needed to receive God's mercy and grace(unmerited favor).

In seeing faith is lost until then we need faith.
Call it a test. Love and faith of God will lead to seeing him.
God is not slave to man,yet came as a servant.
That is God's ways, maybe we can not understand it all, because we are still to primitive, I am not not sure.
Good question though.
