Anyone that has ever seen conscription as it is being carried out as it was in Viet-Nam knows it most certainly is a violation of human rights. However, do not confuse conscription with a fairly administered draft, as the previous answers appearantly have.

I think so. I hope that our experiences with Vietnam means that most of the USA agrees with me--or, enough of us to keep anyone from bringing back the draft. A better idea would be to make joining the military worthwhile enough that we don't *need* a draft.
