Christians live for a life in heaven. And that heaven is not in earth but an imaginary place near God which nobody has ever seen

nothing curls my upper lip with disgust more than a smugly thoughtless Fundy Christian who gleefully awaits the destruction of the Earth so they can receive their heavenly rewards. these grossly selfish, extremely self absorbed, thoughtless, infantile and egotistical "people" don't care about anything but getting their golden thrones and their crowns of glory.

we're losing so much. the Eco systems that sustain precious living things, beautiful and strange flora and fauna ... all dying.
and those nasty Fundies are HAPPY about it because they think that any minute angels will be lifting their selfish corrupt azzes up to heaven. Earth is a disposable planet to them. they're gonna get their reward, all right so screw the all the other living beings and future generations of humans too. i loath them. i loath them so much i can almost believe in a hell just because those spiritually deformed glory gluttons need to be somewhere they deserve to be.

PS. thanx for this question. felt good to vent. whew!

I'm not sure where you came up with your "Christians live for a life in heaven" belief. It not only stereotypes Christians, but it's also rather misguided.

As a Christian, I believe we all have a purpose in life and that the only reason we were created was to love. One important aspect of that love is helping those who are less fortunate, which I believe makes the world a better place.

To me, it wouldn't make much sense to have a "screw this world, I'm going to heaven anyway" attitude. I have never known anyone who thought that way.

>>>Christians live for a life in heaven ... <<<

True, but our most famous prayer, the Our Father, contains the line "thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

Which should make it clear to everybody that for Christians, what happens here on this earth matters.

Atheists are not more motivated to make the world a better place than Christians.

If they were, we would not have seen an officially atheist political system -- communism -- slaughter 150 million of its own people in less than a century.

Not to mention, a person who believes there's no afterlife and no judgment by God has no reason to make the world a better place.

He/She would be much more motivated to life for him/herself, without much thought to the outside world -- given the fact that he/she thinks that life in this world is all there is.

Some Christians are very motivated to make the world a better place, as they believe that by so doing, they can bring in the Kingdom of God. Other Christians believe that only God can bring in the kingdom, and the world is only going to get worse, and as a result, they tend to not be very interested in social improvement. So it just depends.

Well since Earth is the only guarantee we have. Earth is here, reality is now. Matter has organized into consciousness on this planet and is alive and aware. Why think about something you have no idea will happen. Why not focus on what you KNOW to exist. Here and now.

You misunderstand Christian theology.

The basis of Christian belief is to bring to pass the kingdom of God - which is first and foremost here on earth. Jesus said to his disciples, "Love one another."

And to put that into action requires taking care of one another here on earth. Making of earth what we want heaven to be.

That there is a life after death in which we will be rewarded for what we do - and punished for what we don't, or for the evil we do - that adds to the push to make the kingdom of God happen now.

You do not seem to want an answer, only to make a statement.
I don't think you know enough about my faith to answer that.
We believe in earth, a kingdom, Israel , the temple and all that. Heaven is more for a government and a Paradise, thanks for speaking for Christians you answered your own question..

Well the morals a christian should follow are only the ones written in the Bible and they should be followed to the dot of the i. We understand that we make mistakes in everything but we try to fix them as well. And who among us hasn't thrown a hateful word around ever in their life?

Are you sure heaven is imaginary??? I hope so for your sake... because if it's real then I'm afraid you're screwed...

Enjoy your heaven here on earth... I'll be thinking about you while I'm walking on streets made out of gold enjoying a perfect body and mind.

So True!

Christians Desire and anticipate death. Some even try to hasten the apocalypse so they can meet Jesus ( sound like disbelief in their religion to anyone else? )

Athiets do not look forward to death, no do they fear it.
They seek heaven on earth, for they are not waiting for God to provide it to them.
