There is a car for sale in my area that is a 1998 Nissan Sentra GXE, it is a 5 speed. The car is in excellent condition except the clutch always vibrates. What could cause this. It shifts fine and nothing else seems bad on the car. He also replaced the transmition if that has anything to do with it. Any theories on what could cause it. Thanks

The cause of clutch chatter is due to people ridding the clutch. This creates excess heat, which intern warps the flywheel. The flywheel is connected to the engine, the clutch disc is pushed against the flywheel, which creates friction, which makes the car move. Most every clutch with time will develop some kind of chatter. Keeping in mind the only time you should really notice the chatter is when you are letting the clutch out. Most of the time you really only notice it when you are transferring from a stopped position to a moving position. If there is a vibration when the clutch is all the way in or out, then it has not relation to the clutch and it is a internal problem with the transmission.
A lightly warped flywheel is nothing to worry about. If the chatter is bad then the flywheel is badly warp, which in turn probably means the clutch pack needs to be replace.
Keep in mind that when you replace a "clutch" you turn or replace the flywheel to stop the chatter.

Tyson has your answer, just keep in mind that this car may have been beat on. If the seller is young and the fact that the tranny has been replaced, and if the mileage is not that high. You usually have to really beat on a car to glaze or burn the o.e.m. clutch/plate. If the previous tranny failed, that's not good. If it was a performance swap that is another thing to consider. Anyway if things seem to fall into this category...steer clear. Otherwise good luck.

Does it vibrate when you are pushing it in or like when you go over rail road tracks or something? I had an Escape that did that and nobody could figure what was wrong with it.
