Was god afraid that we would figure him out? That we didn't need him. He must be a empty and shallow god if he needs the worship and love of one species on a tiny planet in an infinite universe. Why would knowledge be forbidden? Isn't knowledge preferable to ignorance. Doesn't say much of the god portrayed in the bible.

Not that I believe in the bible, but knowledge, like anything else, is double-edged. They say ignorance is bliss, and to an extent, it's true. Don't get me wrong, I favor knowledge. I'm just saying, there's an up side and a down side to everything. If God exists, perhaps he would have preferred that we stay ignorant, and peaceful. Too much of the time, we use our knowledge for destructive purposes.

The Tree of Knowledge of Good an Evil was forbidden as test - at that time the only thing 'wrong' was to eat from the tree and they didn't know of anything else. This test was simply to see if 'man' would be willing to trust God alone or would he instead desire to lean on his own knowledge and wisdom. Obviously man failed and desired wisdom apart from obedience to God's command. To say God is an empty and shallow God, because he lovingly gave them paradise with only one restriction (albeit a very small one) and they had all the knowledge they needed to simply enjoy life is a bit harsh and unfair.

it's not necissarially that knowledge was forbidden, it's the fact that the Big Guy forbade the act of eating the fruit. no one knows what would have happened if the fruit was not eaten. remember, we are and always have been created in God's image, and we are his favorites. But, the good book says somewhere, "do not ponder on thoughts which are too high for mortal minds." or something like that. so, maybe conjecture will help you decide what you want to know, or if you really just asked the question to be cynical and laugh at responses; enjoy. If you really want some help or are searching for something to believe though, i can't tell you what to do. I know good Christians, I know bad Christians. So there is no clear conception of the Christian God I can give you. Live. Learn. Find and trust your higher power.

Hi;
I'm certainly no biblical scholar, but, I did attend Catholic Schools for my first 12 years of education. You might be taking this question to literally.
Adam and Eve were given 'dominion over the fruits and animals of the earth' they were forbidden to "eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge." The "tree of knowledge" is widely (except among ultra-conservative Christians" as a metaphor for knowledge your not ready for yet. Think of it as a 13 year old who wants to drive the family car. Are your physcially capable of driving the car, Are mentally and emotionally ready to accept the freedom that the car provides you with? No, driving can alsoget into some serious trouble, up to an including taking a human life.
I thing the bible was trying (badly) to explain that Adam and Eve weren't ready for the whole world that God had given them

The tree of knowledge was the cross. We ate from it (Adam and Eve) and now we die. Satan tricked Eve by saying if you eat of this tree you will be like Gods. You will determine what is good and evil not God. He told you not to eat because he did not want you to be like him. He said "If you eat from this tree, you surly will not die" He was actually saying that if you do not eat of this tree I will kill you. She ate from the tree and all of a sudden she thought she knew what was good and what was bad. The key word there is thought. The thing is too was where was Adam to protect her? It says she turned to offer him the fruit too which means he was right next to her. Why didn't he step in and do something. Even when God found them and confronted Adam he tried to make it God's fault that they did what they did, because he said to God "The woman made me do it-- THE WOMAN YOU GAVE ME!! The whole thing was we should have trusted God in what he said and not the serpent. He is still at it today with things like this question. Nice try there pal.

As you aspect out, the first sin change into eating the forbidden fruit. looks like you already know the answer. but do you? Kind of hard to learn by answering your own question before it is answered. The tree of knowledge of good and evil. not the tree of knowledge. It was Satan, the Serpent. The leader of the rebellion. He seduced Eve. Adam partook also. Cain was conceived by Satan and Abel was conceived by Adam. Cain slew his twin brother. Cain had children by a woman of the sixth day creation. The sons of Cain are alive today and continue their father's work.

It was forbidden for Eve to have sex with Satan. Eve was to be the matriarch of the Messianic line. Satan knew this and interfered trying to put a stop to the birth of Messiah. Satan failed and today we all have the opportunity to receive eternal life.

Because God wanted Adam and Eve to trust him and obey him because HE knows what's best. He forbid them to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil because they were UNACCOUNTABLE and innocent, pure...before they disobeyed God and took of the tree. If they had listened to God, they would have been MUCH better off. Like little kids need to listen to their parents. Well, some parents are ignorant and the kids know better, but that's rare.
