Don't write a letter to someone who is dying. Go talk to him. He'll like it better and it will give you a better memory.

Do you need to write a letter. If it is a matter of geography, consider a telephone call.
If you feel you will not be able to find the works or face the person then consider this. This person is the same as they were last year or 10 years ago. They still hold the same opinions and values.
If you feel that the person will not receive you or despite everything you simply are unable, then do this.
Take some time and think about why you are writing, then consider what the main point is.
Then be honest. Avoid euphamisms. Do not worry about sparing feelings.
I am writing because I thought you wouldn't listen to me. OR
I am sorry I cannot be with you OR
I haven't ben to see you because I just don't know what to say.
From here you will find the words.
Goodbye, I will miss you, I love you ( maybe 'sorry') is probably enough

I agree that spending time with the person is better than writing a letter. Go and sit with him and talk about all the positive experiences that you have shared with him. If he has a belief in life after this life then you can discuss that if he wants to. But I would listen to what he has to say rather than you doing all the talking. Sometimes it is better to just be a listening ear and let the other person say whatever is on their mind and in their heart. If he asks you to do something for him after he's gone, make sure that you fulfil your promise that you will.

Tell him what his life has meant to to you and to others....write special memories and don't forget to recall funny memories as well! Laughter is an amazing healer...I am not saying that you should expect a miracle cure for what ever he is dieing from...but reliving happy times may well make some of his last memories good ones. Tell him that you love him (I am assuming that this is a person that you love) Don't say good-bye....say..*till we meet again* Listen to that song by Johnny Cash....it says it all.

When my mom was terminally ill, I wrote her a letter and left it by her bedside one evening and she read it when she woke up. It just said everything I ever wanted to say and she could keep it and re-read it. I didn't plan the letter, I was just feeling all those things at the moment and it didn't take long to write it at all. When the mood and time is right - it will just flow. She really treasured that letter and wanted it in the casket with her when she was buried.

Tell him what it meant to have him/her in your life and how it affected you. You don't actually have to use the word goodbye but rather wish him a wonderful journey. You will meet this person again in another life.

im sorry to hear that and it must be so hard. You should tell him that everything is going to be okay. Let him know you are going to be with him till the end. Cheer him up but making hin remeber good times. Let him know that you love him and that you will always have him in your heart and let him know he is going to a better place.

tell him how much his friendship has meant to you. Remind him of all the good times you have had together. Tell him that everytime you hear a certain song you will always think of him. Just letting him know how much you care will say so much to him. Sorry to hear about your friend, its real sad.
