Back in the 1980's I witnessed a major accident on our flight deck. We had 14 dead and something like 50 injured, many serious. It messed my head up for a long time. I had a lot of trouble sleeping. After a couple years it just seemed to slip away into my old memories and not bother me very much.

It's hard to describe unless you deal with it... kind of like a nightmare in the day time that plays over and over in your head and certain events are more proponent than others!
cold sweets, tremors, mind wonders at times(day dreams etc)
"memories haunt you"...

We go on, one day at a time and attempt to find the answers. No one can describe the feelings well enough for you to understand. You simply have to experience it to understand

My brother-in-law has that. It's like he's emotionally numb. Poor bastard. He's been back three months, his dad died of cancer and his wife's pregnant again (we hope it's his), and now he's going back. It's like the guy can't catch a break. Great question btw.

To be honest most with you.......we will NEVER know. Most with true PTSD NEVER talk about it. Of course those who sleep next to those who are afflicted.... hear them scream, put up with them sleeping on the floor, hear them moan, understand their inability to talk unless its in a nightmare. We get it.
