What is a "dv" cable? Although you can connect a cam to the PC with USB - you will need to install driver software. The most reliable and easiest method is FIREWIRE. This is designed to not only stream video to the PC, but the technology also provides a control interface to operate the camera via the PC.

Anyway, firewire is the way to go and this is automatically recognized by the PC - no driver required.

Wonderful Microsoft programming.

Go to blogs and user groups and see what advise they have.

Also go to your camera company for support.

Generally you have to tinker with the generic Microsoft driver.
