Is it logical to have faith in something? You faith tells you that there is a god, even though you can't see it and only exists in what you see in an ancient book. It seems that faith is based in a more primal part of our brains, instead of being based in our more intelligent parts. God seems to be Santa Claus for adults.

That's the beauty of The Bible. It is based on the facts that existed many, many years ago. It calls upon our faith to believe that what the Bible says is true or not. It says " that if we have faith of a mustard seed, we could say to this mountain, be ye removed and cast into the sea, and it shall happen ". It does indeed require faith. God gave each of us A MEASURE OF FAITH, that we may believe and know that HE is REAL and EXIST. It takes that extra pull on our faith to make sure that we really do indeed believe. " Faith is the substance looked for but cannot see ", and we do just that. We have faith. !!
It seems hard but it is true. From our faith, we can indeed do many things that we ordinarily not be able to do in the natural.
There is no Santa Clause, but there is a God and His name is Jesus. It says so in the Bible.
With the little faith that I have, . . . . I believe. !

I know people who do yoga often believe in an aura of energy that nobody can see, and I know that it has been confirmed by scientific research that people do actually radiate moods through this invisible "field" of energy. In a way, it can be logical to believe in something you can't see. I make a journey to a mountain that I have heard about in a book without pictures. I have never seen the mountain, but because I have read about it, I wish to see it, and my mind tells me it is real, even though I can't see it yet. I guess the same thing applies to people with various religious beliefs.

Believing in something you can not see is something from inside of you. You know there is wind, but you cannot see it only that it has been through the trees, because you saw the leaves move. You believe in the rainbow, but only because it is what you see and yet you cannot see the actuality of it because it is the sun shining through the mist of the rain, which produces the effects of the rainbow. So if you believe in something that is not there to touch, feel, hear, smell, or see. Is it real or is it something that your imagination told you was there because you had a gut feeling and knew with out question that it was right for you at that moment in time. Enjoy life and if it feels right for you and your instincts tell you it is right don't question, just enjoy.

Can we believe in love, have faith in it? How about in gravity or the wind...we can't see them but we know it exists, because they have a real effect on us. God has an effect on those who have found Him, just as real and intangible. Logic says that there is something there, even when we can't see them, that we can be so sure as to state that they exist. It would be foolish to say that they don't.

No, it is not. Indeed, I conclude that faith is evil -- in fact, the ultimate evil. Faith is the belief in something in the absence of evidence, or in the face of contrary evidence. As such, it is illogical. The ability to use logic is the defining characteristic of our species, and what could be worse than to intentionally give up the only thing that makes one human?

If someone told you your wife was cheating on you would you believe she wasn't just because she said she wasn't? or if 10 people told you the same thing would you believe her? If that is in the realm of possibility then you understand what faith is.

Not logical, spiritual. Faith bypasses the natural mind.

Faith as biblically defined is, the substance of things hoped for, the EVIDENCE of things not seen.

I don't think it's illogical JUST because you can't see it.. there are lots of things I have never seen, but I believe to exist because of other evidence. HOWEVER, as far as "god" goes... there is absolutely NO evidence to show he or jesus has ever existed except for the bible- which is not too reliable in the opinon of many.

And to the people who say "well you cant see air and it exists! you cant see gravity and it exists!" How do you know those things? BECAUSE OF SCIENCE. And then you turn around and say that just b/c science doesn't support the existance of a god doesn't mean he doesn't exist. You believe everything else science has given you EXCEPT that, how stupid.

I've only ever seen the planet Neptune in pictures and yet I believe it exists.

Animals only believe in what they actively experience. What differentiates them from us is the human ability to understand abstract concepts and to believe in things that we have not personally experienced.

You can't see love either, but it's definitely real.

If your spouse or your parents tell you "I love you," do you demand proof of it? Do you claim that their love isn't real because you can't see it?

You can't see air, either, by the way -- but don't you think it's arrogant to think that air doesn't exist simply because you can't see it?

It is arrogant and self-centered to think that only what one can see is to be believed.

I can't see you. But I believe you exist. Know what I mean?
