Very similar to the adult that they came from. When they are young, they are more speckled. As they mature, they will feather out like the adult. If you are at the beach when babies are present, you will hear them chirping and begging for food from their parent; who may or may not feed them, depending on whether or not the parent is trying to wean them.

they are brownish...usually until one year old. Then they develop the typical grey-and-white coloration associated with gulls. You can tell a mature gull by the coloration and by the presence of a red dot on the beak which indicates mating maturity.
