No offense, but it's basically a generation gap. I use sites my parents hadn't even heard of, like wikipedia, for major reports, and some people turn to yahoo answers for little things. I personally don't see much of a point in it, but whatever. It's just that times are now changed, and there are more resources that kids can use, so we use the easier, faster ones instead of what most adults are used to.

I'm not really sure if there IS a way to stop that from happening other than just blocking the site. Maybe you could offer alternatives to them(I'm guessing they're your kids, or you probably wouldn't be so concerned) and see where that goes. But again, it's just times changing, just like how your parents didn't use calculators or whatever else they didn't have access to. Again, no offense to anyone.

Well It's a new day and age. Yahoo answers is just as good as the library. What's wrong with asking? Isn't that what you are pretty much doing when you seek out the answer in a book? I mean it's not like you're not learning anything. Every time I ask a question and I recieve an answer I learn something new. I agree people should spend more time at the library, but It's not always the best source for information anymore. I would love for you to e-mail me back so I can understand why you find this a bad thing.

Homeowork assignments are more difficult now, because teachers know that the internet is available. 20 years ago, when homework required research at the single dusty library, and books were limited in quantity and quality, the questions were easier. I'm not sayiing that homework is better, because it's basically just showing that you know how to look up answers and regurgitate them.
But when students want math problems solved for them, that's pretty messed up.

Yes in my day I had to go to the library for research. Many kids dont have anyone at home to help them with their homework.or help find resources for their projects,With maths homework I hope teachers ensure that kids are learning the topic. Sometimes I as a parent get stuck for ideas so its handy to have Yahoo Answers as a resource backup.I think you should be able to onYahoo Answers direct people to sources for projects but not give out the whole answer as some people do for maths.

As a teacher, I think one of the most important resources for my students is to know where to find answers. If they decide to cheat on assignments (I currently teach math) by asking all the answers of a friend, the internet, or copying them out of the back of the book, it doesn't help their quiz or test scores. However, if they ask for answers from a friend or the internet and it helps them understand the material and they can do the test/quizzes correctly then I don't care. I don't think we should try to take away technology from the kids--they need to know how to use it to be competitive in the "Real" world, and they like it. We just need to have teachers who are competent at teaching technology-savvy kids :).

What's wrong with getting fast answers AS LONG AS THEY DON'T CUT AND PASTE.

Writing, journalism for example, is PART RESEARCH (going to the library) but it's also STICKING A RECORDER in the face of someone and asking a question and getting answer.

The LEARNING process is PUTTING THAT TOGETHER in an origianal manner, not JUST copying answers.

i think of it relatively is kinda cheating. when I do GCSE i would not prefer to think of that I have been working puzzling and persons in basic terms getting the solutions of yahoo... i think of reliablilty is on the askers danger. The answerers will do their superb however the asker could notice relatively everyone makes blunders. i think of in case you're answering the question, you may clarify the form you come back to the respond so the asker can get the it the superb option in destiny.

The only way is for everyone on yahoo answers to try and just tell them how to do it, not just give them the answers.

Some do their own homework and only ask for help when needed. If you don't want to help then don't.

Ask them questions about it on the spot during class so you can tell if they actually learned anything or not.
