People are different in the ways their bodies metabolize medication, thus affecting the medication effect. I'd go directly to the Wellbutrin Website for specific information. With that said, I have been on Wellbutrin for several years. I started off on 150 mg, but did not achieve a good effect until prescribed 300 mg - but again, each person is different. I started feeling some effect within the first few days that I started taking it. Some of the initial side effects for me included dizziness and shakiness. Those symptoms went away relatively quickly, though. I have known some people who have taken Wellbutrin only to find that it made their anxiety worse. Wellbutrin is most often prescribed for depression, even though a simililar drug has been used to help people kick the smoking habit. There are alot of different medications out there to help relieve anxiety, but you have to be careful because some (such as Xanax, Ativan) can be habit-forming and addictive. Sometimes SSRI antidepressants are prescribed for anxiety and they actually work quite well, but for others not so well. Unfortunately, psychiatric medicine is often a matter of trial and error, but can be a great source of relief once you've found what is right for you.

The full effect takes up to six weeks, but in my experience, if a medication is going to work for you, it starts to help much sooner. For me, Wellbutrin started to help within days. Like the person before me said, it happens gradually. Sometimes other people will notice the difference in you before you do.
Wellbutrin can help with anxiety but it can also worsen it. I never had that problem with it (or any problem with it...I think it's a great medication and I've been on many of them), but I don't think it really helped with my social anxiety either. (Effexor actually helped me the most with that particular problem.)

Should start to work within the next few days but it should be something gradual so you will not notice a big "bam" or anything like that. Read the package insert that came with it or go to a website called WebMD and look up whatever you need to. It is an excellent websit and is very helpful on many levels.

Welbutrin is an excellent medication and definetly will help you with your social phobia.YOU may notice an effect right away or not.But overall it takes 2 to six weeks for anti-depressants to kick in and work properly.Try not to worry about this as you are in good hands with your doctor, and the meds will help a lot!!!!
good luck and God Bless, i will say a prayer for you so they start workin soon, OK?

Wellbutrin XL did nothing for me but make me crazy. I would look into an alternate medication. I used Zoloft to undo the damage that WB XL did. That never got completely better until I got off antidepressants and onto an anticonvulsive. That's me, though.
Have you looked into Lexapro? I would recommend checking it out.
