Me too. It's not weird. You're supposed to look people straight in the eyes, so you can see if they're telling the truth.

I do the same thing. You are suppose to have eye contact when you talk to people. Some people do get nervous about it at times, but that's OK. If you find someone is very uncomfortable, move your eyes off of them for a second here and there. Also, if you stand too close it makes people get very nervous. Use the three foot rule for this.

It is polite to look people in the eye but you're right, quite a few people do get nervous about it. Many people are a bit insecure, or maybe you're staring a bit too intensely? Try looking them in the eye but not *strictly*, break eye contact occasionally to blink or just move your head a little, that might help.

Some require that you do. For the most part you should but people that really evade looking you in the eye are usually insecure, shy or shifty. That is the reason why people prefer someone confident enough to look them in the eye when speaking.

Too much eye contact is often mistaken as staring. No eye contact is considered suspicious. Eye contact should be held whilst making a point but not held continuously. The fact that you are aware of it and know the effect it has on people may mean you are gaining something from it,,control.

Looking people in the eye is a form of respect.
Not all people know that and it makes them nervous.

Supposedly you are supposed to maintain eye contact when *listening* but when speaking you are supposed to start with direct eye contact but not maintain it the whole time. I used to try do what you are describing, too. It's not the right way. I feel more comfortable looking away, so I can think freely. Luckily, this is also the right thing to do.

it can be. sometimes when people look me straight in the eye i look down and at them b/c i feel more comfortable giving them an answer. you can be a little initimidating when you look them straight in the eye. i say look people straight in the eye if your having a serious conversation with them, if its your teacher or boss, or to see whether or not a person is lieing (this can put pressure on them).

no I was raised to always look people in the eye when you are speaking to them because it shows attentiveness, sencierty, and seriousness.

Although, you do not want to come off to harsh.. make sure that you are not staring them down, and it is ok to look away once in a while.
