Faith is not just about not thinking for yourself, but it's a shield to hide behind while indluging in bigotry and hate. It's more a matter of convenience, I think.

Faith is stepping out to thinking beyond one's self for one's self. I guarantee you use faith every day and you still don't understand the concept.
If this is all there was to life - just breathing, eating, working and dying - then its not a life at all and has no meaning, no purpose no merit. If there is no God, no afterlife, and all the partying, fighting cursing and things like that is the highlight of life... how utterly sad that existence is.
There is more to life than those things and if it wasn't, I would have put a gun to my head a long time ago and got the blue hades out of it. There is a God, a life after, and as with all things even in this life - there are laws terrestrial and universal.
To believe otherwise is shallow, hollow and without exercise of intelligence. Faith is thinking for one's self, beyond one's self.

The Bible teaches us that God created us each with unique talents and abilities. He wants us to make the most of the gifts he has given us and to use them to care for the planet and the rest of humanity. If anything, scripture calls us to pursue knowledge in all its forms, including science. Rather than causing us to relinquish control of our actions, faith should drive us to make the utmost of every opportunity. We aspire to greatness for the glory of God. That kind of motivation has spurred some of the greatest creativity man has ever displayed. Perhaps most notably, some people got together and formed a government on the faith based principles that all men are created equally and that they are given freedom and liberty by the God that created them. The ideas of these great thinkers also provided for the freedom of speech that we use in this forum.

You're mistaken in your presumption. People of faith still must think for themselves. Every choice you make they must make also because God gave us a little thing called free will.
Faith is a guide not a dictator. It never ceases to amaze me how people will consider those who disagree with them as less than them in some basic way such as intelligence or goodness or patriotism.

I think you have things backward. Faith in God is believing in God, what He has, is, and will do. God doesn't FORCE a person to do anything. Toimorrow is Sunday, I'm a Christian. I intend on going to Church tomorrow, but God isn't forcing me to go. I go because I want and need to. God has given us our blessings and the way of salvation. It's up to us to accept what He has done and what He offers. We are given "free will" we aren't puppets or pre-programed coumuter programs doing everything God desires. We should do as He wishes and we should try very hard but I don't have to tell you that everybody sins and makes mistakes. Committing sins, making mistakes, breaking the commandments like not to steal, not to tell lies, etc. are wrongs we committ and by doing so shows that we are not doing each and everything as God pleases. We should, we know better than not to, but we are all sinful people It's not that we want to sin it's not like we're telling God "I'll show you" We're sorry, say so, and try to ammend our wrongful, sinful ways.. We thank God for all the good things we have, tell Him we are sorry for the sins we have committed, and ask forgiveness. We need to accept the forgiveness, eternal life, He offers and live like we mean it. To be an un-believer, Atheist, etc. requires the person to DO NOTHING. No God to pray to, no giving thanks to God, no need to say your sorry, keep only the commandments you feel like keeping, no need or desire to go to Church. Nothing is required. PS Are you/we thankful for the two hands you/we have? Loose one or both of them and see how self sufficient you/we really are. We are not self sufficient to gain eternal life and we are thankful ( for such as two hands) for what we have and much, much more..

we do think for ourselves...God gave us free will..we choose what action to take. he doesn't control you...he wants you to make the right choices..it is all up to you whether you want to do the right thing or not...but one way or another, just like in life there are consequences for each and every action you take. you will have to account for everything you say and do, whether it's in death, or here on earth. just because you believe in God doesn't mean your a robot...your just chosing to love God, and trusting in him to help you make those right choices...he doesn't MAKE you do something...

Not at all. We are to be responsible for our own actions, and while I believe God gives us guidance and assistance, we must ourselves take the steps to accomplish what we want in life. Personal responsibility is big for me.
LIFE forces you to think. Or, it should.

>>>Believing in god forces you to not take control of your own actions>>>
Huh? It's quite the opposite, my friend.
Believing in God, and wanting to live a life that He approves of, most definitely involves taking control -- and responsibility -- for one's actions.
Faith is a choice. To make that choice, one must be able to think for him/herself.
Without faith, yes, you can do anything -- but how will you know that what you do is right?

If you spent as much time learning to use the powers available to you as you do trying to disprove them, you might be having a different experience in your life. All good science is based on trying to believe in what seems not to be true. Until you learn what is true.

Faith actually forces me to think harder and more logically than I did before I had faith. Being a Christian is hard work, for the mind, the body, and the spirit.
