You should have gotten paid before you gave up the title. That's like handing out a blank check, if they can find someone to notarize it, they can sign your name to it and put it in their name. Chalk it up to experience because there is little chance you will ever find them now.

Sure.. just repo it used to do it all the time (you were stupid for giving them the titel though signed or unsigned)
Repo.. even as a private party.. means basically STEAL it back (You did keep a spare key didnt you?) and after you get about 5 miles away.. call the cops tell em you repoed it when the car theft call comes in.. its a civil matter the cops just like a heads up is all and it will cause you less problems...
Word of advice though if yer not cool under pressure or not good at stealin cars.. get a friend who is.. people have been shot over this though its totally legal.. The cops WONT get involved getting it back for you its a civil matter not a criminal one..
And now since you were STUPID enuff to give em the title (SORRY I call em like i see em) You are gonna have to file with yer version of DMV for a lost title.. which isnt that had actually and should cost you under $20.. but steal the truck back first.. and DONT be stupid in the future OK? (thats all i ask)
Your only saving grace in this is you didnt sign off on the title.. If You had.. yer just screwed baby..

Your best bet is to file a small claims suit against the person. You may also want to file an injunction to prevent them from transferring the title out of your name. Get with your states dept who handles title transfers and they can begin to get you in the right direction. Filing the injunction and small claims suit a.s.a.p can keep that individual from transferring title until some more final can be arranged. You may want to also check with the Auto Theft division in your city to see if there is something they may be able to do. Again this is all stuff that needs to happen quite quickly to prevent any further damage.

i own a shop and if you gave them a clear title to it ,you might not get your money unless you have a signed paper or a bill of sale to show the amount they was supposed to pay for it,i made the same mistake one time so don't feel bad,you can get the law to help you with this ,but even they will ask for proof of the amount, id go and explain this to them and see what can be done,I'm sure in the end threres something that can be done to help you ,i bet you learned a real good lesson from this,i learned mine real good ,id go after the truck or the money,i think the law can help you with this one, good luck ,i hope this help,s.

1. I would say that you were silly to do such a thing as you leave yourself open for all kinds of legal liability's.
2. Call the local police department ands ask for a standby to recover personal property, then most likely the officer will run the plate and Vin and check it against your ID,
Most likely you will drive it away, but find someplace safe to park it and expect some kind of retaliation form them.
3. If you don't want to do that at the very least go to the motor vehicle department and inform them what you have done and give them the information on who you sold it to their address and when, that will limit your legal liability at that point.
If they do a hit and run with it in your name or rob a bank or something else like that the police will be arresting you first and then asking questions.

ya know...you could be S.O.L.! You should never hand over the title. It sounds to me like you may need to got o small claims court. Did you give a receipt? I hope that you have good luck, I would recommend that you at least try to contact the person and try to get paid...if all else fails, maybe you ought to go ahead file a motion to be reimbursed.
Good luck!!
