it is a vessel of water that is blessed (a prayer is said over it) and it doesn't necessarily have to be done by a priest. a bit of salt is added to the water to purify it.
here is one blessing prayer...
O God, Who for the salvation of mankind has built Thy greatest mysteries on this substance, water, in Thy kindness hear our prayers and pour down the power of Thy blessing + into this element, made ready for many kinds of purifications. May this, Thy creature, become an agent of divine grace in the service of Thy mysteries, to drive away evil spirits and dispel sickness, so that every- thing in the homes and other buildings of the faithful that is sprinkled with this water may be rid of all uncleanness and freed from every harm. Let no breath of infection, no disease-bearing air, remain in these places. May the wiles of the lurking Enemy prove of no avail. Let whatever might menace the safety and peace of those who live here be put to flight by the sprinkling of this water, so that the healthfulness, obtained by calling upon Thy holy name, may be made secure against all attack. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

the element about the Priesthood God continuously worked His potential by skill of monks this dates again to the Levite monks it really isn't any diverse with Catholic monks. The Priest is an conduit of God's potential so at the same time as a clergyman blesses something by skill of him God's potential flows into the guy, merchandise, position, etc. As Catholics understand this the Holy Spirit (God) fills in spite of is being blessed with the essence of God it truly is also how the host of the bread and wine/water grow to be the body & Blood of Christ. Now all count number is ninety 9.9% empty area besides so it really is not puzzling to do not forget that the essence of God it truly is religious can fill count number. so that you've worry-free water and then a clergyman blesses the water in which it really is now holy water. Now some will say properly monks are sinners like each body else so how can they attempt this? because it really is not the Priest's sinful nature as a guy in which the water is made holy yet extremely the essence of God which makes it holy.

Are you believe in holy water? I never! People say that water is powerful but for me water is powerless. People say that water can make people be loyal to the religion ( Christianity ) but why too much Christian not loyal to their religion? Some of them convert to other and some still be Christian but just in their identity card only. It is powerless. hos is made is not important because it just a water!!!!
Sorry, just my opinion!

Clean water is taken and prayed over by the Priest in a specific ceremony. The water is then a sacramental and is dedicated to religious purposes only.
