My daughter is in H.S. and would like to be an exchange student in France. Any info would be great. Also is it safe for her?

Don't let some sources scare you. Exchange programs are some of the safest ways in the world to travel.

I went to Japan through Youth For Understanding. It was completely independent of my high school, and I was able to get a scholarship so I could go for free.
YFU checks all host families extensively and keeps constant contact with you and your daughter.

Just fill out an application (which can be found online).

And if you are worried about "unsuitable families", hear this:
I was placed in a very nice family, but a few weeks into my stay the mother got very sick! YFU thought it would be best if I was in a different family, so they moved me.

If you do research, you will find a lot of stories about exchange students who are abused and raped and whatnot.. but none will have anything to do with YFU.

If you have any questions, just email me.

Check out the Committee for Safety of Foreign Exchange Students. There are no criminal background checks of host families in foreign countries. Also, there is no money back if your child is placed in an unsuitable host family.

You need to contact the superintendent for your school to determine if they have a student exchange program.
