It depends on which kind of photography you're looking for. Think of all the different types of musicians there are. There are that many types of photographers. Some shoot food, or architecture or people or journalism or kids or pets or football teams. If you're looking for a commercial photographer (people who shoot ads and the magazines) go to asmp.org and use their 'find a photographer' search. If you're looking for a retail photographer (weddings, portraits etc.) go to ppa.org and do the same.

A site that I use is photo.net, it has a wide range of work and images are rated by members. Go take a look.
