My one cat just had two kittens four days ago. They had a thin layer of fuzz and my mom said they looked like they had smooshed faces and short toes. The one died within a few minutes of birth, but the other lived for 24 hours. From what she explained, I think they were premature.

My question is, how was she able to have these two kittens without showing any signs of labor and still be able to retain the rest of the live kittens four days later? Could the first two kittens have actually been twins in the same sac? That would explain why they would "seem" ready to be born. Thanks!

She has been to the vet. They are still alive and moving, so nothing else has been done. There are at least four still in there. I'm really confused as to why this would happen.

My mom was not under the impression that they were premature, but I think they may have been, and there was nothing to scare her or anything into a premature labor. She is used to my obnoxious brothers and overly energized dogs, considering she thinks she is one of the dogs.

Take your cat to an emergency vet ASAP. I had the same issue with my cat back in September, and she ended up dying in the waiting room of the vet's office due to internal bleeding. The vet figured that the cat's uterus had ruptured. The only thing that would have saved her and the unborn kittens was a c-section, which would have been expensive, but I would still have my cat if I'd acted faster :(

The vet did say that some cats take 24-48 hours to deliver a litter, but I would definitely see a vet if I were you.

Something could have traumatized her into early labor.
Do you realize that for every 1 person born, there are 7 puppies and kittens
born? At best, 1 will find a forever home.
And don't forget, that every "Free-to-good-home" litter takes homes away
from animals already at the shelter.

STOP letting your pets; or your friends, relatives or co-workers pets
contribute to the problem.
If you love animals, it is NOT ENOUGH to merely say "My pets are fixed".
Vow to educate and enable others to fix their pets too.
Spaying just 1 female dog or cat, will prevent 6 others from ending up in a
shelter the following year.
Please be part of the solution, NOT the problem!
Thank you. ^..^

This happens from time to time as a cat can become pregnant each time she mates, during her heat (usually 4 days) I know from experience. I have had kittens 2 days appart before.

although 4 days appart is something I have never heard of before, If mommy seams OK than she probably is. If she seams in pain get her to the vet.

Cats can also disolve thrie kittens. and never have them at all.!!

If I read this right, your cat still is pregnant with other kittens? If that's right, I'd take her to the emergency vet right away. She could be having serious problems if she just gave birth to one and not the others. It definitely sounds like something your vet should be helping you with.

Good luck!

cats can retain babies when they feel kittens are in danger to be borned or they need someone they really trust like in this case you or your mom.so,these kittens do not have to be twins to look sick.and for sure your cat knew they were sick.another thing is that cats eat the sicks and weak babies.
