it might just be the sounds in your own ears from putting pressure on them when you are lying down. Sometimes I hear a whispering rustling sound too.

It could be a large range of things, it mostly connects to the possibility of a form of psychosis (swaying towards schizophrenia) but you should not be diagnosed by anyone other than a doctor.
Some medications cause this and so does day to day stress at times, I would say it is more possible to be those than a form of psychosis (you need to present a number of other symptoms).
See your doctor and let them properly diagnose you (remember no one here can diagnose you) you need a full evaluate tell them about your problems like stresses, changes in your daily routine, medication you are on or anything else you can think of.
It may just be that you need a friendly ear to help get your troubles out or it may be something else that is to be treated with medication, all in all I wish you the best.

Well, that could be a zillion things. Google "Tinnitus" as a place to start. You could have a wax impaction that is trapping air and releasing it when you lie down or earwax touching the eardrum. If it were me, I would go to the MD and let them inspect and wash my ears out and see if that helped. I had an impaction and heard all kinds of weird stuff at night when it got quiet.
I assume that this sound is not coming from an external source.

Maybe you have fluid back up in your ear canals. I would say have your hearing checked before you start thinking you're going nuts. It could be something really simple.

Why focus on this issue when you have so many others to deal with. Ringing in the ear can be treated with medication. Start there and let this one go. You don't need to pay attention to this disfunction.

Your imagination. You know people have seen Jesus. Can you believe that? Is it for real. Well actually our brain responses for what we think or make our selves to think. Thats how revolution work. What you hear is your imagination or something inside your ear or something near your house, like mouse bugs etc. But not what you think.
