We tried to call animal control thing and they were not open. We called the police and they couldn't do anything. The hawk is indured. :( One neighbor's car was right by it and it didn't move. It was on the street!!! Not in the middle but all it did was move his head. What should we do?

Don't just let it lay there. Carefully (they can claw or bite), using a thick towel or blanket, pick it up and put it in a box . Put something over the top, but leave room for air. Somehow try to give it water.
Call your humane society, an animal hospital , or vet. If they can't help, they can probably tell you who can.
I kept one for two days once before I found help for it, but I felt real good knowing I helped it

there is an acute danger to yourself by touching wildlife. I feel that there are too many people who are willing to give you bad advice and encourage you to put yourself in danger for the sake of an animal. I love animals. Birds are actaully one of my favorite. I grew up on a farm and frequent zoos and aquariums. However, I do not feel the Hawks life is worth you getting sick or injured. A hawks beak is made to tear flesh. talons are made to wrap around objects and impale. An injured animal is on the defensive, and unless you are a trained profesional, you are not able to make the decision on what is safe and what is not. When any animal is scared it receeves a burst of adreniline that helps it get out of danger. You may have learned about it as the "flight or fright" defense mechanisim. Birds are no different, and if the bird can fly or attack, he will becuase you are a preditor to him.

But more dangerous than some scars are the possibilities of disease. If that bird is sick, you CAN GET IT. Regardless of what some morons say, there are diseases, bacerial infections, and fungal infections that are easily passed between animals and humans. They are called Zoonotic diseases and can be life threatening. Talk to your doctor and your vet if you came in contact with anything that could been in contact with the bird if you expereince flu like symptoms.

Finnaly, keep in mind that you are not a vet, and taking matters into your own hands may do more harm then good. Stress is a huge killer of birds. Especially sick birds. When they are injured and are experiencing blood loss or fighting infection, they simply can't take the stress of some predator with huge leather hands shoving it in a box and driving it somewhere that may or may not be able to help it. The bird has no clue what is going on. The heart rate increases and panic sets in. the bird may injured itself further by trying to get loose or suffer from a stress induced heart attack.

Call local wildlife rescues. They are trained to come get the bird safely, treat it, and release it. they are knowledgable and equiped to handle emergencies, and they know what to do if someone is hurt by the bird.

Please, It is obvious that you love animals, but sometimes, it is better to have a hands off approach. For your safety and the birds. Okay ladies and gents...here come the thumbs down....

1. Protect it so it won't get hit by a car. If it is injured so badly it cannot get off the ground, you must protect it. Since it is reacting so slowly, you (and others) may be able to put it in some type of cage until you can transport it to animal control or the vet. Beak and claws can injure you so wear gloves and protection. Do you have a large dog carrier or kennel? If the bird cannot fly try to get several people together and slowly herd it into the cage. Don't frighten it if you can prevent it, birds can be prone to heart attacks from fright.
Thank you for caring & God bless.

See if you can find a local falconer, they will probably know what to do with it, we get quite a lot of injured and rescue birds come to us. Catch it carefully and watch out for the feet. Put it in a cardbord box big enough for it to stand up but not to big so it can jump around inside and seal it up with tape (make sure there are air holes in the box before you put the bird in it), and keep it in a warm place. Not next to a radiator or it will over heat. Don't feed it because you could give it sour crop. If you can't find a falconer then take it to a vet, preferably one that is an avian specialist, or your local vet may know one.

Poor bird. I would make sure he is in an area where nothing will bother him. Maybe you can take a towel and place it over him and bring him inside to a small bathroom(being careful of his claws and beak). Somehow keep him safe until you can get hold of someone in your area who does wildlife rescue. You may even have an emergency veterinary clinic in your area who could give you the phone number of the rescue organization.

5 years ago I also found an injured hawk and got him to the proper wildlife rescue. He was rehabilitated and then released. It was so cool!

Good luck to you and that poor bird!

Is there a zoo in your area you can call or look for the local Audobon Society in your town? You can protect it until animal control is open by putting a towel over it's head and putting it into a box, small dog kennel, etc.

Oh, wow. Poor bird =(. Do you have a nature-type center with animals, or perhaps a humane society? Maybe a bird store or exotic animal store? Perhaps the veterinarian would be the best place to take it.

Try an animal shelter if animal control isnt open.. they may have some that work with wild animals (ours do but we are rural)

Not sure there is much else you can do particularly if yer a suburbanite or city dweller.. a hawk can tear yer *** up pretty easily... we have tons of em out here...

Call the ASPCA or any animal organization you can find and they can connect you to help. also just do a search on the net. I would find leather gloves and a towel and try to get the bird out of the street and into a box asap.

look up wildlife rehabs in your area, you need to get the hawk to them. Do an internet search. Animal control or a vet may be able to tell you where to take it.
