With my first child, after 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding, I went back on the progesterone-only birth control pill. It took about four more months before I got a period. I had two periods, went off the pill, and got pregnant again (baby #1 was 11 months at this point). So the periods stopped... and I am still nursing baby #2 at 13 months old and back on the progesterone-only birth control pill (for several months now), but have yet to see a period. That adds up to only two periods in three years and five months. Isn't breastfeeding fantastic?!?
By the way, remember that while exclusive breastfeeding can be a very potent method of birth control, it is not reliable since its efficacy can be affected by pacifier or bottle use (even with breastmilk in it), among other factors. You can still conceive, even without getting a period.

Ok, for one, the bleeding right after birth is not your period.
I breastfed my first baby until he was 16 months old. I got my period when he was 14 months and then became pregnant which is why I stopped breastfeeding.
With baby #2, I am still feeding her one time a day, she is 2-1/2years old and I started my period about 4 months ago. Might I add that I have taken Ortho Micronor (a mini pill) since very soon after baby #2 was born so this could be why it took so long for my period to come the second time around (the mini pill sometimes inhibits ovulation) I hope that helps...

I've been breastfeeding my daugther for the last 12 months and I've had 3 periods in those 12 mnths. the last 2 months they have went back to normal. Hope it helps. And don't believe anyone that tells you breastfeeding is a good birth control cause you can get pregnant.

I didn't start getting mine back till I stopped completely, around 6 months, when I weaned my baby, but each woman is different and I know friends that had it again, within 2 months after giving birth yet still breastfeeding....most woman get a break for a few months esp doing it as often as you still do. Enjoy not having it!
for awhile longer....my best to you and your baby!

Each woman is different so getting thier period after having a baby is different for each woman.
My periods returned when my children were around 18 months. I breastfed the first till she was 21 months and second till 2 and a halfyears.
Just relax and be happy you get a break from it.

I have had 4 children and breastfed each for over a year. I did not have my first period until after the baby stopped nursing.

Most people start there period right after birth and bleed for about 6 weeks. If you have not started by now I would talk to my doctor to find out what is going on.

I can't say what is most common, but I breastfed my baby for 21 months, and I didn't have a period until the 21st month.
