If a guy mess around and his main woman is suspect?

Why does the guy have a need/want to take his woman shopping/buying gifts for her; why is this?

If a guy has been fooling around elsewhere and then feels the need to shower his partner with gifts and affection, it's because....

A) he's feeling guilty and hopes to make (in his own mind) some token of reparation, and

B) He's hoping to distract the woman from her suspiscions and avoid any awkward questions by lavishing her with gifts, or whatever.
