I agree with what Amber123 said. Benadryl will relieve the itch. You should find out what is causing them though. I would call the doctor, in case it something more than hives- if there are other signs you should watch for.... Good luck- poor kid.

I just had hives covering my legs for three weeks.... I took Benedryl every four hours, tried calemine lotion and it wasn't too helpful. My legs still haven't totally recovered! I'd say, if he's really uncomfortable and you can afford to go to the doctor and get a perscription (I don't have insurance) do it. It will probably be the best way to get him relief the fastest.

Benedryl is a very good med for hives or other allergic reactions. Calamine lotion is also a good topical medication. be sure that if the reaction continues for more than 48 hours that you take your son to see a physician

as long as he doesn't have any other symptoms (difficulty breathing, cough, fever, etc if he does get medical attention asap) i would give him an otc antihistamine such as claritin (benadryl will work too but it does have more severe side effects and cant really be used for long periods of time. also zatntac, pepcid and other antacids can offer some relief because they block certain histamine recpetors that regular antihistamines dont but make sure you give him teh correct dose, that is if there is a pediatric formulation. if thsi doesnt work bring him to an allergist (not a dermtologist) they may give him a short course of oral steriods to relieve his symptoms.

I have heard that making a past of baking soda and water will help.apply to the areas.
Take some raw oatmeal and put it in a sock and put it in the bath tub letting the warm water run over it -- it is great for poison so I am sure it would help comfort your Son.

give him some benadryl for the itch and give him a warm bath in aveeno oatmeal bath and then rub him down with calmine lotion. I would try to find out what did this to him. Has he eaten anything differant or changed soap or laundry soap or any new medications? If it persists I would take him to his family docter.

Benadryl and cortisone cream - read the dosing directions first! Do you know what caused the hives? It could be an allergic reaction that will be important to prevent in the future!
