I walk almost every evening. I'm trying to correct my posture. The last couple of nights I've walked with my back straight the way my doc advised me to do, BUT the next morning my upper back is killing me. This never happened when my posture sucked. What could this be? Thanks

You probably used muscles you haven't used in a while to hold your posture straight.

If you have had terrible posture for most of your life, it might take a while to retrain yourself. I found that having an exercise ball and a good physical therapist helped me to be more aware of what I was doing and moves I was making that strained my old bones and joints and muscles. It is not something you have to do for ever, but the therapist, if she is good, can really help you know what your pain is and where it originates. I use my exercise ball when I am sitting at the computer and roll around some instead of sitting still. It helps your balance. Water exercises are good because the water cushions a lot.
Walking is always good. Take deep breathes and feel yourself straightening.
Don't be too hard on yourself, realize it takes time to change.
