Its probably 5 degrees outside and my dog who is a four year old lab lays out on the ground on top of snow. She has a fine house that has cedar chips in it and i would think it would be alot warmer in there than on the ground. She sleeps in there any other time but for about the past two weeks she has been sleepin on the ground. Shes gonna freeze to death!!!! well not really cuz we put her in the garage but can anybody tell me why she wont go inside her house??

my dog does the same thing! it is prolly scared because you want it to go inside. i guess they are fine without a house because if you think about it they would sleep on the groundif they were wild! maybe your dog does not like the cedar try hay or a blanket.

Labs are used to cold weather. She may enjoy the snow, or there may be something wrong. If she generally doesn't like being in the snow, make sure nothing about her house has changed since she was last in it. Do the cedar chips need to be changed?, Did you switch brands for the cedar chips?, etc. Also, sledding dogs sleep in the snow because it acts as a insulator, keeping their heat close to them. On especially cold nights, you might want to consider keeping your dog inside in the garage.

Aren't dogs silly?! Who knows why they do this?! Believe me, she won't freeze. They got enough sense to get in out of cold if need. And you have provided good shelter.

Have you actually checked inside doghouse just to make sure some critter didn't get in there and maybe die or leave its scent?
Just a thought as to why she may be avoiding. Seen some crazy things happen in winter. I'm glad you put her up at night when it's so cold! Wish more folks would care enough.

If there is nothing wrong inside the doghouse then she will go in if her instincts tell her to. Not to worry. Got 2 doghouses in my yard and they are never used, but they are there just in case. Keeps animal control happy. My dogs are too spoiled to use a common dog house!

Her dog house is freezing cold as well. Its no difference wether inside or outside the dog house since the dog house is cold as well. In those types of temperatures you need to bring in your dog to the house. No acception's.

Maybe "You" should go and look inside your Dog's house and see maybe there is something that is bothering her instead of asking other's what maybe bothering her. And go investigate yourself.

Even a dog house will freeze your dog to death because the dog house is not insulated and has no heat. and with no shut door behind the dog going in the cold wind just goes in and so of course the dog will freeze to death. Dog houses I think just shelter then from the rain and wind. I do not believe that they keep them very warm. Especially in the temperatures that you are talking about.

be particular his canine homestead is smooth. positioned an previous blanket in there or some cedar shavings. If its only a troublesome timber or plastic floor he received't be warmth or smooth. after all, might want to you pick to sleep on that? LOL. yet no matter if it really is authentic chilly - like decrease than freezing - you want to convey him interior or maybe into your basement or closed storage once you've one. supply him an previous blanket so he will have an area this is his own.

Something smells wrong in there? Maybe since it is so cold a stray cat or dog took shelter in her house, and the smell of it puts her off?

Why is she stuck outside in the first place? Dogs belong in the house with their family. She must be miserably lonely out there.

because when she is in her dog house,,, she cannot be looking inside the windows of your home and watching her family laugh, eat, and be warm,,,,, wondering why your lab isn't in the house with you shame on you....... animals are pack dogs and belong in the house,,,,,,, maybe you should tie your child outside toooo.....
