My mother filed my taxes as self employed and head of household of 3 kids however I am not. I am very disappointed that she did this without my knowledge, how can I fix this? I am single with no kids, and last yr worked a full time job. Someone please help me in resolving this solution. I shouldnt have to owe money, I should be getting money back from the government.

She "filed wrong" and you owe $1,000.... so you must have owed $1,000 if she "filed right". ??? If so, pay it. You don't owe $1,000 unless you underpaid to begin with.

File an ammended return (a 1040x) and contact your local IRS office to set up a payment plan if you don't have the $1000. Interest and fines continue to accrue until the amount is paid off, and trust me, you don't want to wait until your $1000 grows into a $10000 bill!

If Advance EIC was omitted, you MUST pay it back now. The IRS policy is that you can blame the preparer all you want, but it is ultimately your tax bill and you have to it back yourself. You can ask the preparer (if you can find him) to pay the penalty, but all he might do is ask the IRS to waive it--and you can do that yourself. You must realize that if the item had been included in the first place, your refund would have been that much smaller. You can ask for a payment plan, but if your refund for this year will cover it, the IRS *will* apply it to the debt.

Are you saying that you owe the $1000 because you filed a false return and got caught? Sorry, but you can't blame your mother - didn't you look at it? You're responsible for your own return.

refile a corrected tax return for last year. use form 1040x. put correct info on new form and file as you normally would. this year, file as you normally would. you're only filing for a correction of last years retun. that's the purpose for the 1040x. so don't use this year on the 1040x./
