I am assuming you mean the Toronto area.
1.Shopping in the Eaton's Centre
2. Go to Ontario Science Centre
3. The CNE
4. Wonderland
5. The Rom
6. Medieval Times
7. Go for a boat tour in the harbour
8. Go up in the CN Tower
9. If you are really cheap and want to waste a half a day, check out the Bluejays. You can get pretty decent seats for like $20 these days

If you want an urban experience - you should come to Toronto - check out www.city.toronto.on.ca/visitors/index.htm which is the city's official website and lists lots of free cultural things going on.

Things I love here in summer include: the jazz festival, the Distillery District at night, little India (Gerrard St. East) where you can get fabulous cheap take away and then take it down to another great destination - The Beaches - a series of beaches on Lake Ontario connected by boardwalks. You should definitely check out the Toronto Islands - the ferry across is cheap $3 and Centreville is fun. It's also fun to take a picnic and stay into the evening. Harbourfront - which is beside the ferry terminal is always lively and often has free concerts. Don't miss a walk along Queen St. West (start at Avenue Road and walk to Shaw Street and then back - great little boutiques, restaurants, and cafe's - if you go further west you'll find some funky little art galleries. It would take a morning.

If you want to get away from cities - I would indeed rent a cottage and I'd suggest Bondi Village - on Lake of Bays. My family rented there for years - the cottages are well spaced out, the beach is nice, the Lake is gorgeous and the people are great. It is a bit of a family place - not a ton of nightlife. If you want more of that - try Deerhurst Resort just north of Huntsville

Sites are below.

Have fun!.

Visit Parliament Hill; the Museums of Nature, Civilization (which houses the Children's Museum), and Technology. Attend the Tulip Festival or the Buskers festival. Take a cruise up the Ottawa River or Rideau Canal. See Upper Canada Village. Descend into a working nickel mine. Go camping, caving or horseback riding. Check out this web site for more ideas: www.tourism.gov.on.ca/english

Or better yet, forget Ontario and come to Quebec. More exotic, better food ;) but I am biased. Seriously, though, Ontario has a ton of fun things to do.

Google Muskoka and rent a place. Good areas to look into are: Bala, Granvenhurst, Bracebridge and Hunstville, but there are many others
