Try to imagine CHOOSING to like girls. Can you do it? Do you feel naturally attracted to men or women? There are things that affect you that you can't control, and sexual attraction is one of them. These people are simply wired differently, and they have no more of a choice than you do.

My first question to you is when you say "Don't they know they weren't"
Where is your statement coming from? Proven Fact? A book? Your Parent's? Your Pastor?
Did you choose to be Heterosexual or were you born that way. If you suddenly moved into a society where the majority were homosexual do you think you could conform and become a Lesbian? Please don't take this the wrong way I'm just curious as well.
Gay people have been made to defend themselves forever and it's high time as fellow Human Beings that people step up to the plate and start having some respect and compassion. Take a look when you get a chance at the Suicide rates among teenagers who are Homosexual. Is it then your belief that they chose a lifestyle that would ultimately cause them to take their life because they felt ashamed and did not want to explain and justify themselves all of their life to come? Please just go take a look.
I think it's preposterous that anyone would think a person would choose to be something that people make fun of, don't understand, judge, look down, disrespect, etc.
Good Luck in Life!

The real confusion comes when people choose to turn gay because of a bad experience. Some may be born this way, but many just choose to experiment sexually. Sometimes its a rebellion thing or a sense of belonging in the gay community. Either way it becomes more of a sexual experience than a gay situation.
Those who are truly gay can not do anything about it. In truth gay or heterosexual has nothing to do with sex. Its about who you fall in love with and friendship is often misconstrued as marital love. Even heterosexuals will tell you to marry your best friend. This is a mistake. marital love and friendship are 2 different things.
Gay marriages are real in the same percentage as hetero in that many marry people they would be better off being friends with.
Being gay is real but it gets confused when heteros decide to choose the lifestyle.
Personally, I don't care because its their life. My gay married friends have good marriages even if the world insists they are not married. Bottom line; if someone loves someone they add a positive to our community and deserve to have their choices respected. Love is love and how they got there doesn't really matter.

I'm bi, so i can answer this the easy way. In most cases they say that they're born that that way because most of them were never attracted to the opposite sex. There are some who have tried being attracted to the opposite sex, but it didn't work and then there are those who didn't know the were gay til they went to have sex with ther partners and said, 'this isn't for me." As for me, I've known that I was bi since I was very young and I knew this because I was attracted to both sexes. I mean, men and women both have their complications, but sometimes it's just that beautiful smile on a womans face or a quirky sense of humor that attracts me to someone. So, it's not that they weren't born gay, it's just that when they were hitting pre-teen ages they just weren't attracted to the opposite sex.

Why do you say you were born straight? You know you weren't. It's just a choice. Don't take that the wrong way...I'm not trying to be mean or anything. Maybe you're really gay? Maybe being gay is the REAL way and we just 'choose' to be straight.
See how that feels?

The scientists believe there is (I mean unlikely) a "gay gene". A number of biological factors have been considered by scientists, such as prenatal hormones, chromosomes, polygenetic effects, brain structure and viral influences, no scientific consensus exists as to how biology influences sexual orientation.

Its like asking why does a frog croak or the wind blow.Though there are scientific answers in one form or another to explain something the simple answer is....
It just is or they just are.
Why are straight people straight? Are they born this way or are they made this way?If so then how and why?
Now the easy answer
They just are
The greatest gift given to any of us is freewill and knowledge...

Same-sex desire is unnatural.
This particular charge dates back to Plato, who argued that homosexual sex was "against nature". This argument was echoed by Paul of Tarsus, in a claim to the same effect in the Epistle to the Romans. In recent times the discussion has been framed in psychiatric rather than philosophical terms, with the claim that it is a sexual perversion.
Though the psychiatric establishment once medicalized same-sex desire, that position has been revised, and homosexuality was later removed as a medical disorder from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Recent work by biologists has shown same-sex sexuality to be widespread in nature as well as in human society, leading gay rights advocates to assert that opposition to same-sex desire would itself be against nature. Meaning that they affirm that; "animals do it, why not us?"
However, according to rebuttal of this argument, held by, among others, The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property, there are some behaviors exhibited by many animals that most would consider unnatural in humans, such as cannibalism. The counter argument to this claim is that it confuses "unnatural" with "wrong", and that this is therefore simply a restatement of the claim that homosexuality is morally wrong, like cannibalism, not unnatural. These issues are complicated by the polysemous character of the terms "natural" and "unnatural" which can be used in many equivocal ways.
The greatest position among the anti-gay is that it may feel natural but defies good moral judgment. When a person, or persons, cannot find satisfaction in the normally accepted manner, boy-girl, they find themselves wandering to find fulfillment elsewhere, even if it means turning from morality. Self satisfaction becomes the norm by choice. Any action can be justified under these circumstances. However that doesn't make it right or acceptable under long term. Remember hearing of plain crashes? When left with the choice of starve for lack of food or cannibalism, the dead were served up to satisfy the need.
However, the moment passed and the immoral act ceased.
Persons who experiment with gay or lesbian experiences and remain in them are hiding from their own inability to cope with moral concepts of living.

If they're not born that way then they're real suckers for punishment. Who would want to deliberately cause themselves to be the brunt of society's jokes, abuse, and fears.
I don't know why some people are born gay, but they are. There are all kinds of unexpected variations in nature, both animal and human. God made us all.

It's a personal choice, and as such, homosexuals each have their own reason. Just as you are attracted to the opposite sex, homosexuals are attracted to the same sex. Let's think about this in the inverse:
Why are straights?.....?
Straight? Not to be mean or anything, I'm just curious, and why do some say they were born straight? I'm just curious, please don't take this in the wrong way.
Answer that, then you get your answer.

not really a question for the R&S section now is it? (although it's fun to see the bigots make fools of themselves)
I suggest you start here:

and work from there. It's a complex issue.
