You need to take him to a vet. I hope it's not, but it could be a kidney problem.

I wonder a few things, is it a kitten or a cat? How long have you had it? Do you know if the cat has always drank a lot of water? Excessive drinking is the first sign of diabetes and yes, cat can be diabetic. They also would start to lose weight. Excessive drinking can also be a sign of kidney disease or even a urinary tract infection.
If you have just gotten the kitten, or if this is new behavior the kitten needs to see a vet.

Drinking a lot of water can be a sign of Urinary Tract Infections and these can be very serious. If untreated, the cat can go into kidney failure. I work in Rehab at a shelter and there is a cat with chronic UNIs and we have to give him limited water quantities because all he will do is sit and drink water until it is gone. I would have your kitten checked immediately by a vet. I hope everything turns out okay! UTIs can be treated with meds = )

I will ask if you have had your kitten to the vet for checkup and shots, deworming? If not, then the kitten needs to go and make sure it is alright. Unfortunately, cats can have lots of medical problems, most are easily treated. Others can be deadly and contagious to other cats.
I am sure you would rather your kitten be safe and healthy. Drinking too much water can be a warning sign of illness. No one here can tell you for sure! If you had your kitten to the vet already then I would give him a call and ask about this. May need to do some bloodwork to make sure.

It's normal. Just like people, some drink tons of water others a glass a day. His age too is an issue. If He's just getting weaned, the new food is saltier than mother's milk.

See a vet, too much water could be a sign of diabetes. S/he can advise you on how much is too much. Best to keep track for a day or two of the actual consumption. O & btw - cow's milk is actually not that great for cats.

If you're noticing s/he's drinking really excessive amounts, absolutely take him/her to your vet. Cats generally don't drink too much water. It could be a sign of a urinary infection or kidney problems or several other things. I'd definitely contact my vet.

It really depends on how much it is drinking. The only one who can tell you if it is too much, is the vet. That's not one we are qualified to answer here. It sure would be nice if everyone and everything came with a directions book.

Well, it really depends. It could be good because water makes just about any living strong. It could be bad because it might be drinking TOO much water. If your really concerned, you could take it to the vet.
