I think the actual behind the wheel test should be tougher. Knowing all the answers to the written test, such as "what does a curb painted white mean" doesn't mean you can drive safely.

I was one question away from getting wrong on the written test. But aced the driving part. I don't know. I guess it be hard to say. Some people just aren't good test takers. An some can do better with hands on. An some can do both. But maybe they should let you get a certain % on the written, and a certain % on the driving. Add them together that is your score. Anything above a 70% passes.

Being able to drive and being able to pass the test really have nothing to do with each other. Peoples comprehension skills have nothing to do with how they drive most of the time. I never studied anything and i passed the test with after missing 5 answers. I've never been in a wreck or even had any close calls.

I like how you're thinking about tougher standards and road safety, and I agree with your idea.

At the same time, I suspect that the people causing accidents may be smart people who are making bad choices, like drinking and driving, or who are being reckless or careless.

What I would like to see is much harsher punishment for driving errors. Let's catch people making mistakes, and then let's punish them to a degree that they'll never make the same mistakes again.
