Let's say you ask someone out and they tell you they're in a relationship but their body language is still flirty and they're standing close to you, invading your personal space.

body language is important but this girl is probably an "attention whore". she flirted with you just to make herself to feel wanted. dont worry about it and move to a confident woman that doesn't play games

I think a combination of the two work well. I would not trust the spoken words at first, but the body can tell you more than the mouth does. If the person is talking in a flirty manner and standing close to you, this could still be an attempt to tease you, or show off that person's "power of attraction". Trust me, people do this - without intending to go any further. If there are repeated signs of body language, with positive verbal communication, I would interpret that as a sign of real interest.

Definitely the body language! They may really be in a relationship with someone else but that doesn't mean they don't like you. Sounds like a lot of flirting if you ask me.
