Some dogs do this because it is instinct. Dog are usually full and they will bury their food so they can get it when they get hungry again. And burying it also to hide it from other dogs so they can't eat it.It's a survival act. It is in almost all canines and cats.Don't get me wrong , there are dogs that lost this self survival and do not bury their food

Hello, where I live there are alot of foxes running around, and at night when it swarm I will feed them hot dogs and ham..The love it! But I have seen them take the hot dogs and go and bury them, in little places in the dirt.

I think they do it, to keep it safe, and away from the other foxes...I think you dog does it to keep his bone or food safe as well...Its instinct. Just like when your dog goes to lay down.he will turn around and around a few times before he plops down? Thats instinct as well. In the wild Wolves will do that exact same action to make a place for them to sleep or lay down in, on a pile of leaves, twigs..etc..

If you mean bury their food, its related to instinctual behavior from their wild predecessors needing to save food to survive.

It's reverts back to the "pack instinct" where food was buried to protect the pack from intruders.
