In college, I did a paper on something called sleep paralysis. Basically, what happens is that you are awake but you are still dreaming, and the chemicals that keep you from acting out your dream in your sleep are still in full force. So, basically, you wake up and you can't move and you're imagining stuff, too. Most people, upon waking up and being unable to move, are frightened and the dreams quickly turn to being held down. Many people imagine ghosts or aliens.

Were you laying on your back? Sleep paralysis most frequently occurs when you sleep on your back.

Many of the things you mentioned - feeling something pressing you down, someone holding your neck, not being able to move, the fact that the dream was scary to you, and the ghost all sound like sleep paralysis.

I've only experienced sleep paralysis once, and even though I already knew about it, it still scared the bageebees out of me, because my first reaction was simply "Holy crap, I can't move!" It didn't last too long, and then I figured out what it was, and I kind of got a kick out of it.

I have had dreams like that as well. Try as i might, I can't wake up. I know I am not breathing when this happens and it can be terrifying. This usually happens when I am sick or stressed out. I don't think it is any supernatural thing, It's just your brain processing stuff. Emotions and physical problems can jumble things up in the file room of your brain. (My husband calls it free entertainment) Try prayer or meditation or whatever you do to calm yourself after this happens. just get out of bed and do something else for a while. I think lots of people have those dreams so youre not alone. take care.

I had a similar experience in that I thought I was awake (still not sure), and lying on my side in bed. There was someone lying directly behind me so that I could feel their body against mine, and this person was breathing heavily. I couldn't move. It happened a few times, and each time it was in the morning at the weekend when I was alone and having a lie in and must have dropped back to sleep. Now I always get up when I wake up in the morning and never drop back to sleep. That seems to have cured it. It might be something that happens when you are in that half awake/half asleep mode. So try not to be in that situation again.

Í have a friend who´s had that kind of dreams. That happens particularly when she´s going through a very stressful time. She describes it as a sort of sleeping panic attack.
Those sound like the kind of dreams through which your subconcious is trying to speak to you. Maybe you´d benefit from talking to a therapist about them and analyzing them with him/her. Good luck. Don´t worry, you are not alone.

Dreams like that can be really upsetting. If you think it is a problem, see a doctor and ask for a sleep study. They can do a lot to help you. Or, if it was too much spicy food/drink/drugs before bed, well, knock it off. Good luck!

Many people have dreams that mess with their minds. Bad dreams are peoples' fears, one example is falling. I had a nightmare I was falling off of a building and then I woke up on the floor. Bad dreams happen to many people. It's perfectly normal to see a horrifying dream that can mess with your entire body.

Did you feel like you were half awake and half asleep?? If so, yes I have felt this before. It's an evil entity. The Chinese call it " The ghost press bed". It's very scary. It's called sleep paralysis.
