I started dating a man long distance and after talking for three months visited him for the first time since we met when he admitted to me that he had another long distance relationship going on for years that was dead end. He told me he wants a real relationship and I think that he and I have a chance, I plan to relocate to his area within a year and know lots of his friends. This other woman will never relocate and his friends do not even know her. However, he isn't breaking it off with her yet. Since we have only been together officially for one 3 day visit I don't feel I can give him an ultimatum to end things with her. He could have lied to me. He hasn't told her about me. We had a great time on the visit and he calls all the time and we are supposed to get together again in about a month. Am I asking for heart ache? It just seems to me that she couldn't be that important to him and he will end it after he and I have spent a little more time together. We are in our 40's.

I think tha after the third long weekend date you can decide if you want to be monogomous. Dating means seeing multiple people to see who is right for you, so let him do just and let yourself do it too. Once you start to have deeper feelings for him or you get intimate (both of which usually occur between one and three months in) then it is appropriate to ask for monogomy, is he fails to give it to you then... turn the other way as you will be asking for a heartache. Good luck

I don't understand here. If you have seen him and the other aint and you are willing to relocate to be near him. He really should call it off with the other woman. And why are you waiting for a year to relocate? If I was you I would really think things threw before I made such a move. It is a BIG step for you.

The fact he told you he was in another relationship is not a good sign.

Sorry.

you should be really sure of yourself and him before you do anything drastic. you might have a hard time dealing with the other lady afterwards. you should ask him more about her.
