Hi. ADD and dislexia go hand in hand at times. ADD rarely goes away, we just mature and figure out how to live with it. Don't feel bad. I have a super intelligent friend, but he couldn't spell to save his life
I had/have ADD (I'm 44), but am a perfect speller. That's why I say "at times". The best thing that I have read here was.....
READ!!! Turn of the TV, ok. Read for pleasure, not as work. Keep a highlighter handy and highlight words that look strange or that you don't know, but don't stop reading. Go back later and look the word up in a dictionary, or do the repeat and use in a sentence thing that I describe further down. Don't interrupt the flow by stopping and starting all the time. Do it after you finish a chapter or long passage.

The memory function of most people's brains is supported by sight. Seeing a word is different from hearing it. Just ask any native Spanish speaker who is trying to learn English. They'll tell you as much.
Upon encountering a difficult word, write it 5 times and use it in a sentence so that it's meaning sticks too. English has so many very similar words (spelling wise), such as "affect" vs. "effect", that the using it in a sentence part is important.

Word families are important too.
Character
Characterize
Characterized
Characterizing
Characteristic
Characteristically
Uncharacteristic
etc..... Learn the root and everything else follows. A very good way to increase vocabulary also.

Good Luck....Rob

To be a better speller, write your words as you see them ,not by the sound... Meg, had a great way... but try to write the words you find hard to spell. Good luck and the best...

Writing helps.

make a note of the words that you have trouble with, then write it out 100 times. You will never forget how to spell it.

Look, almost everyone is bad at spelling. I think it takes reading a lot, memorization, and learning to prounounce words correctly, because you can't spell them right if you can't pronounce them correctly.

You should take a phonetics/ phonics class. A grammar class will help too.

It's called "spell check" or on YA, "Check Spelling." Try using it and making a mental note of the words you repeatedly misspell.
