Hiccups are caused by involuntary contractions of your diaphragm — the muscle that separates your chest from your abdomen and plays an important role in breathing. This involuntary contraction causes your vocal cords to close very briefly, which produces the characteristic sound of a hiccup.
Often, there may be no obvious cause for hiccups. But possible causes include:
Irritation to the nerves that control normal contractions of the diaphragm — such as due to eating hot or spicy foods or drinking carbonated liquids.
Eating a large meal. Hiccups are more likely to occur when your stomach is full.
Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol
Smoking
Sudden excitement or emotional stress

I'd say its a mixture of the carbon-dioxide and the temperature. Cold liquid is a shock to the system cuz obviously its colder, which means you might gulp down more air with the stuff by reflex. secondly, CO2 is obviously air which the body really doesn't need, so this excess is just chucked back up. The combo of the 2 could easily effect hiccouphs: probz more the cold though, it being a shock.

It is caused by the acidic nature of the drink reacting with ur body, if you drink it too fast, you are limiting your oxygen supply thus causing a hiccup
