This person is a troll.
This question is tailor made to upset cat lovers. If you look, he is saying that he did not take his old cat to the vet for the injury and that he keeps the cat in a box.
Plain and simple...
A troll.
He is just better at trolling than the more obvious ones.
For anyone facing a severe injury with an older cat, that is a vet question, not a Yahoo! Answers question. The vet shall determine if the treatment is worse for your older can than euthanizing it. It is a matter of quality of life versus quantity, and if the older cat can sustain treatment.

The cat needs a vet period. Even if you cant afford to have the leg fixed. If you are not fixing that cats leg to relieve its pain you need to euthanize it. Especially if it cannot get up to use a cat box and is going to the bathroom on itself. This is no quality of life for the animal, and it should have been taken to the vet when the injury happened. If you cannot afford for it to see a vet you shouldnt own an animal at all. Why didnt you take it when its head was ripped open? Jesus christ how sad and sickening. You are making an animal suffer and someone should report you to animal control

Hi. Oh no. Injured pets get a new lease on life these days by using little wheel chairs to get around. Some pets get used to using 3 legs. There's even a special dog that hops on two back legs bc his/her front legs are deformed. This dog even has a book, a website and the distinction of being one of Oprah's guests. So, u might not have 2 put ur cat down.

Did you take the cat to the vet when this attack happened? Why wasn't this broken leg treated then?? I dont understand, have you had him treated at all? or just let it heal by itself which broken limbs cant.
If this poor animal cannot even move and has to use this box as his toilet as well that is cruel. What agony and non-quality of life does this animal have now?
Is money an option? Can you afford to have his legged repaired or amputated? If not you need to put him out of his misery right away.

If the leg is that bad, it can always be amputated. I had a cat's leg amputated because of bone cancer last summer. She was 9 years old and did just fine on her three legs.
I was scared to do it at first, but it didn't seem to bother her at all. The pain from the bone cancer did bother her though.
Euthanizing her would be the last thing that I would do.

How old? What does the vet say? Is the cat in good health otherwise? Is amputation an option? All these issues need to be addressed in making this decision-but, bottom line, don't make kitty suffer needlessly.

No. If you take it to the vet and get it splinted and on medication it should be fine depending on how bad it is. I've seen some cats hold infection in a broken leg and they amputated it.

Hi Mike, In your question, did you state how old your cat is and how long it has been since he got hurt so bad?
The only thing that I can tell you, out of experience is take the cat to the vet. Please, don't wait any longer. There, the doctor will examine him and be able to tell you what happened and what needs to be done. Right now, you need the advice of a professional and need some one to take a look at that poor cat. Please, take him to a vet as soon as you can. Don't wait any longer, please.

Such injuries almost never heal, and they produce unremitting pain. The older the animal, the less favorable is the prognosis. It would indeed be merciful to euthanize the poor creature. You don't want it to suffer, do you?
