Dying m&m's black with food coloring?

I have a project that requires black m&m's. I am assuming that I will just use black food coloring however I dont know the correct procedure. Because you only need a few drops, do I fill a pan with water and the food color and just have the m&m's soak. Or if there is another way I am open to any suggestions.

You can't dye M & M's black. You are just going to make a mess. Just use the dark brown M & M's.

PS - I think they had black M&M's at Halloween?? Not sure if you could find them, now.

There is some spray color that you might be able to find. I'm not sure how successful it will be but well worth a try. I saw a bottle in the cake decorations aisle the other day. Good luck and happy baking!

You can dye a sugar glaze with decorator's coloring (comes in black) - glaze is sugar cooked in water til syrupy then pour it over the m&m where it can drip onto a surface to re-use it. Let it dry on one side, turn over and pour onto the other side. All this if you can't find them or need them before you could order them.

If you aren't going to have to eat them or put them in water or melt them, you can spray paint it or use permanent markers.
